Job description
We are looking for suitably-qualified, talented teachers who have not only a passion for teaching, but also the ability to adapt to all the different aspects of the role, and for those who are willing to carry out non-academic duties such as supervision duties and airport duties with professionalism and flexibility.

QUALIFICATIONS
- University Degree in any discipline
- CELTA or Trinity College TESOL (or Accreditation-UK recognised equivalent) or PGCE (in English or MFL)
- Applicants with the DELTA, QTS (Primary or Secondary) or CELTYL, are particularly welcomed.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 1 year's EFL teaching experience with Young Learners is essential.
- Applicants with previous experience of working in a residential summer school and teaching mixed nationality groups are preferred.
WORKING DAY
After breakfast, there is a Teachers’ meeting, which all teachers must attend.
Lessons begin after this meeting and consist of English Skills followed by two other lesson types dependant on the course.
English Skills (All Courses)
These lessons are based on Bede’s syllabus and are designed to improve students’ general language abilities, extend their vocabulary and pronunciation and enhance their understanding of grammar to improve their accuracy when producing spoken and written language.
StoryTime (Little Explorers)
Working on 1 or 2 children’s stories per week, StoryTime develops students’ listening skills, extends their everyday vocabulary and stimulates their creativity and natural curiosity.
Explorations (Little Explorers, New Horizons, Adventures in English)
These lessons, based on stimulating subjects such as science, environment, ecology, space, energy, geography, and technology use CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), methodology to enhance students’ general knowledge as well as their communication and language abilities, promoting their cultural sensitivity.
Enrichment (English Plus)
Students develop their receptive and productive English skills, enhance their linguistic knowledge (of English) and deepen their cultural knowledge (of the UK) using real-life materials such as adverts, leaflets, TV programmes, short films, newspaper articles, magazines.
Research Project (English Plus)
Working in groups, students complete research tasks based around a weekly topic or theme of interest and then present their findings/conclusions to the class by way of a sketch, performance, poster, news story or short film.
Adventure Activity (Adventures in English)
These lessons offer students a practical lesson in the outdoors, focusing on productive and receptive communication skills, such as survival skills, orienteering, treasure hunt, problem-solving or nature trail.
Future Thinking (English For The Future)
These sessions prepare students for ‘Friday for the Future’ debates between two classes. Through a series of practical workshops on internet research and critical thinking, students will gather sufficient information on the United Nations sustainable development goals and analyse it in order to discuss and offer practical solutions to global problems.
Project For The Future (English For The Future)
Over the course of a week, students will research and discuss one of the 2030 Agenda sustainable evelopment goals such as ending poverty and hunger, protecting the planet, promoting and fostering peace, achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. Then they will present their conclusions by way of writing a blog entry or a news story, conducting a survey and analysing its findings or presenting a sketch or performance. These sessions aim to develop not only students’ speaking and communication skills but also their social and interpersonal skills as well as broaden their perspectives on life in the future.
Communication Skills (Pathways to Higher Education)
These lessons enable students to develop effective skills and strategies for high-level oral and written communication in a wide range of professional contexts.
Academic Pathways (Pathways to Higher Education)
The Academic Pathways lessons are themed to give students an understanding of certain professions, underpinned by theoretical knowledge. Subjects offered include Science, Humanties, Business and Economics and Law.
Depending on the centre, teachers will prepare and deliver up to 5 hours of lessons a day, 5 days per week.
Lessons are based on current EFL materials in accordance with the Bede’s syllabus, and are prepared with the help of the Academic Manager and/or Senior Teacher. Lesson planning takes place in the teachers’ room during the afternoon after lessons. Teachers are encouraged to assist with the wide range of sports, activities and clubs in the afternoon activity sessions, but their priority is always to prepare high quality lessons.
One afternoon or evening per week, as part of our commitment to teachers’ professional development, the Academic Manager and/or Senior Teacher lead a 30-minute input session that all teachers must attend.
Twice a week teachers will be required to assist the welfare team with the wake up duties of the students.
On Fridays, all Teachers attend the leavers’ ceremony and personally hand their students their certificates and Teacher’s Reports.
On Saturdays or Sundays Teachers will either be involved with the excursion or Airport Transfers.
