Education Transition Worker
Fixed term to 31/8/2024
37.00 hours per week term time only
These posts sit within a new service created in order to make a real difference in young people’s lives and educational life chances. If you are a confident, persuasive, diplomatic and creative individual – read on.
Your caseload will comprise of a small number of pupils who need support at points of transition. You will be required to work in collaboration with the Local Authority Child and Family Support Team, LAC Coordinator, Wellbeing & Behaviour Service and Education settings, in order to improve transition, engagement and reduce the risk of exclusions for:
- Children/young people moving into the LA and in-year transfers with complex needs;
- Children/young people who have been permanently excluded from school within the LA;
- Children/young people who are Looked After and movers into the LA.
You will need to work collaboratively and creatively with stakeholders including (but not restricted to) parents/carers, schools, statutory agencies and Local Authority Services to coordinate support in respect of the children, young people and families using the service.
You will need to develop creative ideas for engagement as one size fits all is definitely not the path you will take here. Innovative and alternative routes for success will need to be considered and found for each of your cases in order to achieve success.
Experience of working with schools and improving the outcomes of young people is essential for this post, along with the ability to challenge others using your skills of tact and diplomacy.
You must have a full driving licence and the ability to travel expansively around the County Borough. Occasionally you will be required to travel to meetings outside of the immediate area. Alternatively should you not possess a driving licence or vehicle; you should have the ability to travel for business purposes without unreasonable disruption to the requirements of the post.
Welsh language skills are not necessary, however, will be an advantage. You will need a minimum education qualification of GCSE in four subjects at grade C or above, one of which must be either English or Welsh, plus Mathematics, or a qualification of a comparable level such as Level 3 Diploma Youth Work/Health & Social Care, other equivalent relevant professional qualification or possess equivalent occupational experience.
