Calderdale Youth Justice Service undertakes assessments and interventions with children and young people aged 10 -18 years of age who have committed a criminal offence, or they are at risk of offending. The service’s priority is to prevent offending and further offending by addressing the criminogenic factors and support young people’s skills and strengths to become valued members of the community. The case managers supervise young people subject to community and custodial sentences and provide preventative interventions for young people at risk of offending. The team specialise in knife crime and domestic violence.
Calderdale Youth Justice Service and schools have a shared responsibility to support the educational progress of children and young people who offend or are at risk of offending. This joint approach not only supports young people to access education but also enables schools to drive up standards and raise attainment through social inclusion.
The post holder will work with schools, colleges, training providers and employers in assessing the suitability of placements. The postholder will actively advocate for children and young people and co-ordinate the delivery of support in the early stages of their return to educational provision. The postholder will be required to act as a link between the YJS and the educational services and work collaboratively with colleagues in Education and Inclusion Services to focus on improving school attendance especially for children and young people who have been truanting, excluded from school, on a reduced timetable , have a reintegration programme or subject to a tuition package. The postholder will work with families to address barriers to engagement and monitor progress.
The postholder will be required to ensure educational provision and attendance data is accurately recorded, undertake professional educational assessments for Court reports, represent the service at multi-agency meetings and deliver training to staff and volunteers.
A relevant professional qualification in teaching, educational welfare, youth justice diploma or social work is required and experience of working with children and young people aged 10-18 years of age.
