This is an exciting opportunity to work across a range of schools and settings across Darlington. You will work with a wide variety of different types of schools and settings including maintained schools and academies who support children from early years to post 16. Your role will include advising, auditing and the delivery of safeguarding training activity to schools and settings, as well as acting as a point of contact for multi-agency networks such as the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), Missing Exploited Group (MEG), Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), Child Exploitation Team and locating and reporting on Children Missing in Education (CME).
The post holder also leads on responses to Ofsted complaints delivering responses that support continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the LADO to support schools to ensure timely reporting and investigations; you have a key role in the triage and advice regarding professionals in education settings.
You will currently be a serving school-based practitioner with extensive designated safeguarding lead (DSL) experience, a social worker or similar professional in a relevant role within a Local Authority or MAT, who has a strong background in safeguarding, partnership work and a good understanding of the key issues educational settings manage as part of their safeguarding practice.
You will have the knowledge, skills and experience to:
• Develop collaboration and partnerships between settings, schools, stakeholders, and system partners.
• Recognise and share best practice already evident in settings and schools in Darlington and from your knowledge of best practice elsewhere.
• Understand local risks and provide timely expertise, guidance and signposting to schools and settings.
• Effectively challenge settings where the safeguarding culture is not yet effective and secure rapid and sustainable plans for improvement.
• Influence, inspire and support others so that the safeguarding and welfare of children is at the forefront of our collaborative partnerships with stakeholders.

If appointed, you will be expected to work in partnership with school leaders, EY managers, officers and advisers from Darlington Borough Council, including working closely with our Front Door, CSC and Early Help teams. You will build connections with Darlington Safeguarding Partnership and stakeholders.
