About the Role

This role within the Education, Inclusion and Achievement Service will be critical in delivering high quality safeguarding support and advice to schools.

Our new Safeguarding Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring that Newham delivers its statutory responsibilities, provide high quality safeguarding advice to schools and setting. The post holder will have responsibility for investigating and responding to Ofsted safeguarding complaints and undertaking safeguarding reviews as required.

The role will also be instrumental in supporting the Designated Safeguarding Leads Network, ensuring that learning from rapid reviews and serious case reviews is shared and support provided to schools to make changes where necessary.

Remote working will be available where possible in addition to working on site/at the office is essential for aspects of the job. We are committed to offering flexibility to staff within the remit of their roles.

About you

You will be a knowledgeable and experienced safeguarding professional, ideally having Qualified Teacher Status and leadership experience in a school or local authority setting.

You will be able to positively engage with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders in change and improvement processes and have successfully delivered large change within an education setting.

About Us
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
