Job description
Part time, 21 hours per week- 9am-5pm
The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) is the leading professional association and trade union for all school and college leaders. We are proud to support and represent more than 22,000 leaders of primary, secondary and post-16 education from across the UK.
In Wales, ASCL Cymru has the authority to influence national, regional and local government policy and practice. We provide individual advice and support to members on professional matters, their employment and deliver first class professional development.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of the ASCL Cymru team! You will be helping to influence the direction of national and local policy in a variety of contexts, whilst developing your own profile as an expert in education policy.
We are looking for someone who can carry out research, seek and collate views from Stakeholders and identify emerging issues across all phases of school and college provisions. You will also be able to draft and produce policy papers and reports.
With excellent presentation and communication skills, and with proven knowledge of current Welsh education policies relevant to school and college leaders, you are likely to have recently held either a policy-focused role or a leadership role in an education policy organisation, education setting or other relevant educational organisation.
Working closely within an extremely well-regarded and supportive ASCL Team Cymru, you may occasionally be asked to deputise for the director.
The position is home-based although involves frequent travel across Wales to attend meetings with key stakeholders and deliver training and consultancy to members. There will be regular contact with and visits to ASCL HQ in Leicester, plus training and development. IT and telephone equipment will be provided.
This role is paid on a five-point incremental range from £59,808 to £66,107 per annum (£35,885 – £39,664 pro rata 0.6). The current vacancy is for a 0.6 part time post usually worked as three full days per week with flexibility over days worked. Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses are also covered.
ASCL is an equal opportunities employer and offers a very generous package of benefits, including a pension scheme to which the Association contributes 9%.
