Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to support children and young people to access their educational opportunities as part of North Lincolnshire Council's One Families Approach.

The successful candidate will have a sound understanding and commitment towards education as every child's legal entitlement to improve life chances and achieve their full potential. Willingness to progress to statutory levels of intervention as a last resort, but also the ability to identify barriers impacting to provide a holistic solution focussed approach to moving forward and generating positive change.

This is a temporary post for up to 12 months for 32 hours a week (to meet needs of service) to cover a previous secondment.

The role requires partnership working with various agencies, schools, families, parents, children and young people often under challenging situations in order to effect positive changes and ensure the best for all our children.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence their temporary contract with the team as soon as possible. Applicants who wish to apply for the role as a secondment must have their line manager's permission to apply prior to completion of their application. As part of the role, you will have responsibility for carrying out case work in relation to school attendance, children missing in education, elective home education, looked after children in education, alternative provision and exclusions.

This will include statutory level interventions. You will be expected to support families through school exclusion processes, with appropriate challenge where necessary.

The successful candidate will be expected to initiate legal proceedings in respect of irregular school attendance; school attendance orders (Elective home education) including education supervision orders - which will include formulation of court reports and representation at court.

You should possess personal attributes that support engaging families (especially those that have been hard to reach and difficult to engage). The ability to relate to and communicate effectively with children, young people and adults in an empathic way, developing rapport in order to explore barriers and positive change strategies and interventions is crucial.

The successful candidate will need to be capable of appropriately managing and responding to difficult situations in a calm and sensitive, fair and confidential manner. You will be able to identify effective ways of delivering early interventions and support to children and families, alongside supporting schools to proactively consider barriers through solution focussed planning.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, be able to manage a diverse workload, respond to statutory expectations, have sound time management skills and be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
