JOB SUMMARY
Education Facilitators present a wide variety programming to museum guests, monitor, and interpret exhibits, and assist with any and all education projects as needed. Program audiences may include school groups, daily guests, birthday parties, private groups, camps, and more. May also assist with animal care as needed.
Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is required. Some outdoor work may be required.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
- Monitor Fernbank’s indoor and sometimes outdoor exhibit spaces, assisting with opening, closing, and periodic component resets and cleaning
- Create a welcoming environment by greeting guests, providing assistance as needed, and interpreting exhibit content for visitors
- Present a wide variety of programs for guests at the museum, including but not limited to daily programs, school programs, camps, weekend, and evening programs
- Collaborate and implement new programs as needs arise
- Greet guests, orient groups, maintain safe and attractive environment, and assist guests with interactive components
- Assist the Education Department with other tasks and duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Strong customer service and public speaking skills
- Previous experience working with young children a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent required, some college-level education a plus
- Basic knowledge of science
- Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required

- Must enjoy working with people, including children and families
- Enthusiasm for sharing knowledge
- Comfortable learning various science topics
- Comfortable learning to handle and care for our education animal collection, including reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates; training will be provided
- Flexibility and a willingness to help wherever needed; energetic and creative
- A self-starter able to work independently or as a team and see projects through to completion
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors and stand, sit, or walk for long periods of time
- Willingness to support other Museum priorities as needed
Pay: $13.00 per hour
