Manchester International Festival is back this summer – taking over the city once again with a world-class line-up of art, music, theatre and cultural events. And we’re also preparing to open the doors to the new Factory International space – so there’s never been a better time to join the team.
You’ll work in our Digital Content team, supporting the Editorial Manager with creating, delivering and publishing original content to support the festival programme and our body of work this summer.
From producing daily coverage of what’s on at the festival, to helping facilitate artist interviews and supporting our wider team with your copywriting and editing skills, you’ll have a hand in all things written and editorial at this incredibly exciting time. The work you do will be key in helping us build and deepen our relationships with our audiences through masterful storytelling.
Responsibilities for the Editorial Assistant role are;

Supporting the Editorial Manager with the delivery, creation and publishing of original, fresh and regular editorial content across the Factory International website, especially supporting MIF23
- Supporting the Digital Content and Marketing teams in updating pages across the Factory International website
- Writing, editing and proofing copy for key pages on the website in collaboration with the Marketing team and other departments
- Championing our editorial standards, guidelines and tone of voice, helping to ensure compliance of output produced by different teams and collaborators
- Developing creative ideas and actively championing new and innovate ways to tell our many important stories
- Supporting in the briefing and sourcing of appropriate photography, imagery and licensing for publication online and in editorial content
- Liaising with different internal departments and external partners, developing positive working relationships with artists, contributors and talent
- Supporting the Editorial Manager with administration, including but not limited to appropriate filing and sharing of documents and assets
The person specification for the Editorial Assistant role includes;
ESSENTIAL
- Experience of working in an editorial environment
- Demonstrable creative copywriting and editing skills and an acute attention to detail
- Experience of writing for target audiences, using data to understand their needs and expectations
- Ability to develop fresh, new creative ideas
- An understanding and experience of website CMS systems
- Effective planning and organising skills. Ability to manage several areas of work at one time, prioritising, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities

Commitment to championing representation and inclusion at every level of the organisation with a proven ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
DESIRABLE
- Experience of working with a range of stakeholders
- Experience of using Wagtail CMS
- Experience of working with photographers
- Enthusiasm for training, mentoring and support of emerging talent
