Position Description:
Network Runners is seeking a Senior Writer Editor to support The United States Coast Guard (USCG) Acquisition Directorate (CG-9). CG-9 missions include ongoing communication support for both internal USCG audiences and interested external audiences, including the public, journalists, and other United States Executive and Legislative departments. CG-925 also routinely supports communication efforts led by the Commandant's Advisory Group, Atlantic/Pacific Area Commanders, Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS), other headquarters and field elements, and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) elements as part of ongoing communications concerning CG-9 related activities.
Job Description:
The Senior Writer/Editor will have primary duties as a writer and editor of USCG materials. The writer-editor will, with little or no supervision, interface directly with USCG staff and technical writer staff to write, proof, and edit feature articles, interviews, news blog posts and news releases, briefing presentations, brochures, fact sheets, and other documents.
The Senior Writer/Editor will work in a fast-paced team environment, collaborating with other writers, editors, as well as graphic designers and communications planners to create and implement a communications strategy and to develop products of exceptionally high quality.
The Senior Writer/Editor must be able to meet quick turnaround deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously and will be expected to exercise independent judgment in selecting and implementing solutions in support of the above tasks. The writer-editor will also frequently interact with peers from other organizations and will need to gain cooperation from those individuals and groups.
Required Skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills; strong reporting skills; knowledge of AP Style; ability to work on multiple tasks with very tight deadlines; strong organizational and research skills; attention to detail and flexibility required. The writer-editor should work comfortably with all ranks and levels.
Experience in supporting DoD is a plus. A background in beat reporting or feature writing is required. The writer-editor should be a quick study and quickly get up to speed on sometimes highly technical or scientific material.
The writer-editor should have a positive attitude, enthusiasm for daily challenges, a commitment to quality, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and the ability to reorganize the workday if deadlines are re-prioritized.
USCG experience is highly preferred.
Education Requirement:
· Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
