Senior Editor & Content Strategist
We are seeking a creative Senior Editor & Content Strategist with good knowledge of search engine optimization to manage the Moz Blog and Learning Center, and evolve the Moz content strategy. As the principal editor for these properties, this role involves working with internal and external authors to publish high-quality content on SEO fundamentals, search industry news, as well as beginner, intermediate and advanced digital marketing strategies while elevating voices from diverse backgrounds and employing the Moz brand voice and tone.
This role is an exciting opportunity for an exceptionally organized editor, content strategist, and writer who has experience defining and reinforcing brand tone and voice and expanding and maintaining an author bench. You’ll have the proven ability to develop and execute a content strategy for a SaaS B2B business. With a solid foundation of search engine optimization knowledge and the ability to learn concepts quickly, you’ll apply this knowledge to our own content production pipeline as well as conceptually to the content we’re publishing. With the goal of driving traffic, you’ll create and evolve a content strategy that drives an engaged audience to the Moz site and pages that convert to our products through sourcing, editing and publishing blog posts, learning center articles and SEO guides.
You’ll support the execution of marketing campaigns that highlight the value of Moz products and events (Moz Pro, Moz Local, Moz API, Moz Academy, and MozCon) through content ideation, and publication and ongoing maintenance.
Many people learn SEO from Moz, and it’s our mission to provide valuable, accessible, actionable, strategic SEO content for our audience and community. This role will play an important part in supporting this mission.
Tasks & Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the daily running of the Moz Blog and Learning Center. Planning, assigning, reviewing, editing and publishing TOFU, MOFU, and BOFU content from internal and external authors and industry expert contributors. Your average day will include topic ideation, author outreach, editing stories and evergreen content on a range of SEO topics, maintaining and updating content, uploading content to the Craft CMS and adjusting formatting in HTML, and working across marketing teams to coordinate projects. You’ll have the ability to prioritize tasks based on deadlines.
Key duties:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive content strategy to expand, empower, and delight our audience.
- Plan and manage the Moz Blog and Learning Center content pipeline and editorial calendar.
- Create and execute content initiatives that align with the company's overarching business goals and support marketing campaigns and product initiatives including SEO guides, SEO industry articles, educational how-tos and Whiteboard Fridays for the Moz Blog, Learning Center and Moz Guides.
- Maintain and evolve Moz brand voice and tone guidelines and advocate for its implementation across the marketing team and the company in collaboration with the Content and Social Media Team.
- Create robust content briefs for internal and external contributors and work with writers from draft to publication and distribution.
- Work with the Website and Design Teams to improve user experience, content architecture and customer journey across the Moz Blog, Learning Center and Guides.
- Track, analyze, and report content success based on KPIs.
- Act as a liaison for content contributors company-wide, empowering them to translate their ideas into valuable content.
- Create and maintain internal documentation to improve processes and team efficiency.
- Develop expertise and authority as a content industry thought leader
- Work with the Social Media Manager to coordinate editorial calendars and align with campaign launches.
- Work cross-functionally with Sales, CS, Growth Marketing, Lifecycle Marketing, Product and Subject Matter Experts to gather and prioritize content requests.
- Assist with the daily operations of the Content Marketing team, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate doesn’t need to have all of these skills, but a good number of them will go a long way.
- Exceptional editing and proofreading skills
- Exceptional long-form editorial writing skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Experience managing content strategy for a B2B SaaS business
- Experience sourcing and managing a bench of guest authors and contract writers
- SEO. You have a solid foundational knowledge of SEO concepts and the desire to grow your knowledge in this area. You know when to engage internal experts for accuracy review.
- Proven ability to write content briefs and create long and short form content to brief
- Experience with CMS systems, Google Analytics, HTML.
- Familiarity with social media platforms which may include Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram and more.
- Amazing organizational skills, with attention to detail and an ability to prioritize workload.
- Demonstrated interest in content creation ideation and publication
- Experience gathering reporting in Google Analytics, an asset
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills and Google Wordspace
