Job description

What you’ll be doing

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented, motivated and organised Editor to join the Hachette Children’s picture books team in a full-time position. Reporting to the Editorial Director, you’ll act as editorial lead on designated titles, and provide editorial support on others, helping to ensure that all titles are accurate, consistent and delivered on schedule. You’ll be involved in every aspect of the editorial process, working closely with staff in all other departments to help prepare and champion titles across the list.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an organised and creative Editor with excellent communication and project management skills who is confident managing multiple tasks and tight deadlines. You should have proven experience in the children’s publishing industry, and experience of picture books would be of benefit.

This is a broad and varied role, and we are looking for somebody who will embrace working collaboratively with teams across the organisation. Applicants should have strong editorial skills, an eye for good design and solid commercial awareness.

We are looking for a versatile editor who can nurture our current authors, keep track of trends and develop new ideas. We need you to bring a positive, can-do approach and build strong relationships with your immediate team, other departments, as well as authors, illustrators and agents. A passion for picture books is essential.

What we offer

Our staff are our greatest asset and our benefits reflect this. In addition to 28 days annual leave days per year + bank holidays, we have an extensive list of benefits that include: a wide-ranging training library, development programmes including mentoring, Cycle to Work vouchers, Private Medical Insurance, eye care vouchers, up to 70% off book purchases, a charity book shelf, 2 community days per year, many employee networks to join, summer hours (finishing at 1pm on Fridays during the summer months!), season ticket loans, rent deposit loans, generous pension schemes and much more!

The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.

Our Commitment

Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.

If you are shortlisted and need us to make any adjustments to help you attend for interview, please let us know.

The Book Trade Charity offers financial support to people looking to enter the book trade but who may struggle to afford the costs of attending interviews and undertaking junior roles. For more information visit www.booktradeentrysupport.org
