Role: Editor

Recruiter: H2O Publishing
Location: Home-based
Salary: £28,000
Industry: Foodservice, catering and hospitality
Hours: Full time
Contract: Maternity cover, contract ending Friday 23 February 2024

The role:

H2O Publishing is a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative publishing and events management company, with a significant voice in the foodservice and hospitality industries.

It produces pioneering magazines and digital content across fast-moving sectors, as well as running industry-leading events.

H2O is searching for a passionate B2B editor to hit the ground running on two of its client-facing publications – one monthly, one quarterly.

As editor, you will be expected to document industry-wide catering operations, as well as contemporary trends, food and nutrition, legislation and anything else that comes out of foodservice kitchens across the UK.

While working with the clients and their editorial requirements, you will be responsible for researching and writing the magazine’s core content, which will include interviews; food, drink and equipment features; new product stories; case studies; and more.

As editor, you will be in regular contact with industry operators/readers, associations, PRs and suppliers, establishing and continuing the vital relationships needed to create polished content for the magazines in question, as well as enhancing trade events and competitions run by H2O Publishing. This includes national conferences, awards ceremonies and competitions, including assisting at the National Pizza Awards and the Street Food Championships. This role also requires you to be free for a four-day conference from 24-27 July 2023.

You will commission proofreaders, and constantly monitor relevant industries across the UK, reflecting your knowledge and findings within your writing across print and digital platforms.

As well as delivering fresh-thinking content and ideas that meet the strategy of the editorial director and client, you should be willing to regularly attend evening events and industry launches. These are predominantly based in London, but you will be encouraged to travel the country and potentially abroad on occasions. These are just a couple of perks to the role.

While this position is initially for a maternity cover contract, for the right person there could be the opportunity to join the H2O Publishing business full time.

The person:

H2O Publishing is looking for a proactive, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join its team. The successful candidate should demonstrate initiative and drive, as well as enjoyment in being part of a friendly business. You should be comfortable working independently and leading freelancers/budgets, as well as being ready to take instruction when necessary. The candidate should have experience in writing for/editing a trade publication within the foodservice or hospitality industry. Previous work in trade events and awards would also be favourable. You should have experience in (but not limited to):

· Writing/editing for B2B magazines

· InDesign

· Microsoft Office

· Flawless social skills when liaising with readers, clients and PRs

· Strong organisational skills

· Capability to work alone with instruction from the editorial director

· Strong passion for the food, drink and catering industries

· Proofreading

· Developing a network of contacts

· 25 days holiday a year (plus Bank Holidays)

· Contributory pension

· Life Assurance

· Rewards for exceeding job requirements
