About the Assessment Development Editor role:

Reporting to the Head of Learning, and working closely with the Senior Assessment Lead, the Assessment Development Editor will develop content for our client's assessment products, including scoping, review, editing and the management and streamlining of processes. With the aid of the Editorial Assistant, the role-holder will also be responsible for recruiting and training external contractors, allocating work, and spot-checking test items to ensure quality remains high.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Learning Team to identify areas for pedagogical development in assessment for admissions tests.
  • Working closely with the Senior Assessment Lead to develop curriculum and criteria for new assessment admissions tests and accompanying tutorials.
  • Ensuring testlikeness in new and existing assessment content, at question, set, mini-mock and mock level. This includes the sequencing of items within mocks and the balancing of question types and difficulty levels across question banks.
  • Developing workflows and processes for the production of admissions tests to ensure they are delivered on time, to budget, and to an expected level of quality.
  • Collaborating with the Senior Assessment Lead and other colleagues in the Learning Team to recruit and train freelance writers and reviewers.
  • Briefing, monitoring and supporting freelance writers and reviewers to ensure the production of high-quality content that is fit for purpose.
  • Reviewing and spot-checking the work of external contributors and providing feedback to achieve optimal output.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues in the Learning Team and wider company to ensure assessment items are well integrated in supporting tutorials and learning media.
  • Contributing expertise to ‘narrative’ products such as Interviews, Personal Statements and the Admissions Guide.


The ideal candidate:

Qualification, experience and knowledge:

  • Min. Bachelor’s (2:1) degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of learning design/curriculum development is essential.
  • Experience developing and writing content for assessment.
  • Significant experience content editing, copy-editing and proofreading
  • Experience in teaching/PGCE qualification is highly desirable but not essential.

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills – the ability to give and receive different types of information, in various formats; able to provide constructive feedback.
  • Strong English language proficiency and meticulous attention to detail – style/consistency, grammar, proof-reading, layout, etc.
  • Strong editing and writing skills – the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and effectively for different types of learner.
  • Negotiation skills – able to participate actively in discussions aimed at reaching an agreement.
  • Organisational skills – able to utilise logical, systematic and orderly procedures to meet objectives.
  • Goal orientated – the ability to recognise what results are important and what steps need to be taken to achieve them.
  • A collaborative team player – able to express their opinion while being respectful to others’ ideas.
  • Strong project management skills – a track record of efficient content delivery.
  • Adaptable – the ability to change your action, course, or approach to suit a new situation at short notice.
