The Digital Projects Editor will create and maintain historical content for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s flagship website and blog. The Digital Projects Editor applies their historical and writing skills to generate well-researched, historically sound content about the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, its work, and the historical events, people, and episodes that contextualize the worlds of colonial and revolutionary Virginia and vast early America. The Digital Projects Editor will work and collaborate with the Director of the Colonial Williamsburg Innovation Studios, the Director of Foundation Marketing & Outreach, and the Foundation’s Research Division to create and implement an editorial calendar for the Foundation’s website and blog. The Digital Projects Editor may also be asked to assist with research for other Innovation Studios and Educational Strategy and Civic Engagement projects and content.

Primary Functions:
1. Collaborates with colleagues across the department, division, foundation, and enterprise, including coaching and teaching others about historical research, copyediting, and website development when asked.
2. Creates and edits public-facing blog posts and text-based content for the Foundation’s website.
3. Assists with developing a strong and diverse editorial calendar for website-based content.
4. Conducts historical research and provides fact-checking for historical accuracy on digital media programs.
5. Provides quality control for assigned work to ensure consistent use of quality control guidelines and accurate historical information.
6. Provides creative leadership in content development and works to maintain Colonial Williamsburg’s standards for high-quality digital projects and historical accuracy.
7. Uses connections across the fields of early American history to commission blog and other digital content for the Foundation’s website and other projects, as assigned.
8. Copyedits all website and blog content.
9. Works with social media team to create content for social media posts.
10. Performs other duties related to the production, development, support, and promotion of digital content initiatives as assigned.
Required and Education and Experience:
Required:
- Minimum of Ph.D. in history or related field.
- Demonstrated experience with historical research and writing for public audiences.
- 5 years’ experience in managing, producing, and delivering digital learning assets.
- Advanced knowledge in conducting research in digital databases and other online tools.
- Strong and proven ability to work productively from home or at a remote location.
- 1-2 Examples of published writing for public audiences.
