An exciting opportunity has arisen for an investigator to join the Economic Crime Team within the Serious Economic Crime Unit.

Applications are invited from PIP 2 accredited PSI with a proven investigative background however applications will be considered for those demonstrating the necessary attributes who are willing to undertake the detective pathway.

You will be confident, self-motivated and be able to evidence your team working skills as you will be required to operate as part of a small team. You will also have the ability to manage large volumes of information and analyse critically to draw out the relevant evidence is essential. A disciplined approach and good self-management are therefore paramount.

A number of our investigations involve vulnerable victims being targeted in fraud types that are likely to be targetting more than one individula at a time, from Courrier Fraud, Rogue Trading and Romance Fraud and a proactive approach is often needed to ensure early victim identification and safeguarding. The successful candidate will be passionate in protecting victims and bringing offenders of these crimes to justice.

This is a challenging role that although requires the successful candidate to take ownership and investigate a number of investigations, sometimes large-scale operations, but it’s with a team ethos and individuals will find themselves fully supported in the challenges, working to bring prosecutions of offenders, and to trace the movement of stolen funds in order to maximise the opportunity to compensate victims through the application of the Proceeds of Crime Act legislation.

It would therefore be desirable if you have knowledge of POCA as would experience in investigating financial offences however this is not essential and external training courses will be provided as required.

The role involves working collaboratively with outside agencies including the National Crime Agency, the ROCU's (Regional organised crime units) and the City of London Police along with local partners such as Trading Standards.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake vetting to MV level.

You will generally work day shifts Monday to Friday with one weekend in six however flexibility is required to maintain operational effectiveness and the successful applicant will be expected to work the hours necessary to complete the investigation successfully sometimes changing shifts at short notice or being retained on duty to complete searches or deal with persons in custody.

The role is currently designated as home based working with the office being at the old Kent Police HQ, Sutton Road, Maidstone. This will move to Ashford Police Station in 2023, date to be confirmed, for team office days scheduled once a week. However there will be an expectation of additional office days dependant on operational demand and to carry out daily business, these will be from the most suitable station. Flexibilty is required as the work can take you around and out of county

The role will offer flexibility in terms of place of work, including the potential to work from home for those who would like to however flexibility will be required to meet operational demand and daily business. In the event that home working is agreed for the successful candidate, there will be a requirement to regularly attend a contractual workplace/designated ‘Team Zone’ location on average one or two days a week, as agreed with the line manager. Currently the designated contractual workplace/Team Zone for this role is located at Kent Police Sutton Road, Maidstone but please be aware that this location is moving to Ashford Police Station during 2023. Please note that any excess travel costs from the existing contractual workplace/Team Zone to any future contractual workplace/Team Zone will not be paid and applicants are advised to take potential travel mileage increases into consideration when deciding to apply.
