In this graduate level role, we are looking for someone with a STEM degree to develop their career pathway working with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams.
What you’ll be doing:
You’ll join a dynamic team responsible for ensuring that BT meets its legal obligations under the under the Investigatory Powers Act. Specifically, under this role, you be responsible for ensuring that systems are in place that enable BT to meet these obligations cost effectively, with appropriate security whilst meeting legal & BT operational requirements. This will involve working with designers and stakeholders both across BT and government/law enforcement. In addition to the design and implementation of these systems, the role will also involve providing expert technical support to these systems.
- Assist and eventually own network and system designs for obligatory platforms.
- Contribute to meeting business objectives, solving business problems and furthering business success by applying industry, applications and technical knowledge through the definition of high level solutions on projects or the development of operational processes and procedures.
- For their area of responsibilities the role holder is responsible for driving forward technical improvements with other areas of BT to ensure that all platforms deliver what is required by the Obligations team.
- Contributes to the development of service improvement programmes.
- To assist with project estimation and costings.
- Provide assistance to 3rd and 4th line technical teams in order to resolve operational issues.
- Utilise the relevant BT professional communities to raise your skills, and those around you.
- Contributes to ensuring that the security and integrity of the platforms is maintained against relevant and changing standards.
Skills you’ll need:
- IP Networks: Understanding of routers, switches and firewall infrastructure.
- VMWare: Understanding of VMWare, ESXI, NSX Firewalling.
- Effective relationships: Develops practical and open relationships across Customers, Security and with other BT teams such as Networks.
- Business acumen: Expected to build knowledge in business strategy and the drivers of organisational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g. business KPIs, business cases).
- Degree: A STEM degree subject (or equivalent) is required.
- Travel: This role requires occasional overseas travel (1+ weeks). You must be able to travel, and be respectful of local customs and laws.
- On Call: If required, be part of the on-call rota as per business requirements.
- Security Clearance: The nature of our work means you will require a Security (DV) clearance, so we will undertake checks before starting the role with us. Don’t worry a member of the Early Careers Team will talk you through this.

As mentioned above due to the sensitive nature of this role you may be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels).
An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.
