Whilst DCMS is advertising this vacancy, the successful candidate(s) may ultimately be appointed to the newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

The Future Network Programmes (FNP) Team plans and implements research and innovation programmes in digital infrastructure, including the £250 million Open Networks Research and Development Fund and £40 million 5G Innovation Regions Programme. Job description

Project Manager: setting up and progressing a small portfolio of telecoms research and innovation projects that contribute to delivering the Wireless Infrastructure Strategy.

Projects are usually grant funded and delivered by public sector bodies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversight of a small portfolio of projects.
  • Progress set up, to ensure that project aims, scope, time, costs and intended benefits are clearly defined in grant funding agreements.
  • Engage extensively with project stakeholders and government colleagues.
  • Assess the status of delivery. Analyse a range of information sources. Identify and tackle risks, problems and changes.
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly, for example to provide information and advice to stakeholders and government decision-makers.
  • Produce a range of written communications. Examples: stakeholder correspondence; status reports; advice for decision-makers; meeting actions; briefings.

Our work is growing. Roles and responsibilities are indicative. Successful candidates will be adaptable, with an ability to be flexible and willingly take on any work that is required to support the strategic objectives of the team.

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

Essential Requirements

  • Project delivery skills and experience. In particular: people and leadership; governance and reporting; and risk management.
  • Collaborating with and influencing people, within and outside your organisation, to progress your organisation’s business.
  • Written communications skills and experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Implementing grant schemes or publicly-funded research & innovation.
  • Relevant subject knowledge, for example: digital infrastructure or research and innovation policy or programmes; the telecommunications industry.
