We would also consider this role on a freelance basis (separate pay rate)
Contract type: Fixed Term contract initially until 31st March 2024 (with the possibility of further extension)There may be a possibility of the contract lasting longer, although can't be guaranteed at this stage (funding dependent).
Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week. Monday and Friday. Additional hours may be available, especially during school holidays.

This role is responsible for transporting bikes and equipment from our Birmingham based depot to schools across Birmingham. You will plan routes and load and unload bikes and equipment from the van. You will be part of the Bikes Team including our mechanic, Bikeability Lead and Bikeability instructors. The role would suit someone with an interest in cycling (although not essential).
Bikeability is a city-wide project delivered by The Active Wellbeing Society in Birmingham.Its aim is to train young people to cycle to the National Bikeability Standard.
The Active Wellbeing Society trains over 10,000 young people in schools to cycle each year. The delivery of Bikeability relies on bikes and equipment being transported around the city between our storage unit and schools. There is also a community element to Bikeability which needs our bikes and equipment to be transported to community venues.
MAIN DUTIES
- To drive a long wheelbase van transporting bikes and equipment from our Birmingham based depot to schools across Birmingham. - To regularly load bikes and equipment on and off the van.
- To be able to create route plans to get from A to B quickly in the safest most efficient manner.
- To liaise with staff in the bikes team, including our mechanic and Bikeability instructors, to understand the tasks which need to be completed.
- To be polite, courteous, and welcoming with school staff, students, and residents with whom you will come into contact when dropping off and picking up bikes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- A confident driver.
- Hold a full manual driving licence (in your current UK address), with no more than six penalty points (clean licence is preferred).
- Good communicator with internal and external teams.
- Ability to follow instructions and work to tight deadlines.
- Competent in route planning and following directions.
- A good team player.
- Comfortable to undertake regular manual handling.
- Adaptable and willing to take on other duties as reasonably required.
