Job description

  • Responsible for ensuring that refuse / recycling material collections are completed effectively to and to the standard required thereby minimising missed collections.
  • Complying with safe working practices in the accomplishment of the collection service both on the highway and within the disposal site.
  • Ensuring that the vehicle is safe to take onto the highway, undertaking daily routine Checks of the vehicle as set down in Shorts procedures. Completing daily drivers PDA, highlighting any mechanical defect that has occurred during the working day.
  • Collecting refuse / recycling material in a safe manner in order to minimise disruption to the public/other road users. Where possible reporting no collections where no refuse presented for collection
  • Unloading the vehicle at the designated disposal point, retaining weighbridge tickets for return to office based staff at base Depot.
  • Driving in safe and courteous manner, ensuring that the loaders are carried safely within the cab, obeying traffic regulations and speed restrictions, not overloading the vehicle.
  • Ensuring that the vehicle is left in a clean state at the end of the working day with all refuse off loaded unless permission has been granted.
  • To learn the route planning, identify where bin locations are.
  • To carry out the work in accordance with the Companies procedures in a safe manner with regard for members of the public and other members of staff.
  • Report all bins not presented, contamination, side refuse and overloaded bins or at the earliest opportunity to the Supervisor/Manager. Reporting broken or damaged bins found on the rounds.
  • To familiarise yourself and comply with all Site Safety Instructions relating to all Landfill sites, waste transfer stations and Recycling sites.

  • Good communication skills within team and with customers.

  • Physically able to perform manual tasks.
  • Good safe working attitude.
  • CPC & Full LSV driving licence required. Tacho card.
  • Literate
  • Customer friendly
  • Flexible approach to overtime and tasks allocated.
  • Good geographical area knowledge.
  • High regard to Health and safety and follow processes.
  • Fit and active.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: From £16.00 per hour
