The Disrupting Exploitation Programme is a project that supports children and young people (CYP), aged from 10-18 years who are at risk of or who are being exploited. This is an innovative programme combining high quality one-to-one work with young people and their families, with systems change work. Our systems change work is focused on the policies, procedures, contexts, and cultures around young people to improve the response to children in comparable situations in the future.

The programme seeks to explore barriers and enablers affecting young people’s safety and the risk of harm posed by child exploitation. The service supports CYP from early intervention and those with more complex needs; for example, risk of school exclusion, criminal convictions, trafficking and being missing from home.

The Children’s Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We’re there for children, every step of the way.

This role sits within our Youth Impact domain, which works to provide one-to-one and group support for children who urgently need support. Your role will be to help us maintain and develop innovative practice to support our work in this programme and other services around the country.

We are currently looking for someone with substantial experience in working with vulnerable young people and their families to join our dynamic, ambitious team.

A key part of this role will be your ability to motivate and lead a team of youth, parenting and systems change practitioners, oversee systems change projects, work with key partners and stakeholders, manage changes in priorities and possess the flexibility to respond accordingly.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Experience of preparing documents and plans that are informed by data analysis
  • Excellent experience in, and knowledge of key principles in relation to safeguarding, child exploitation, youth justice, trafficking, health and safety, dynamic risk management, date protection, quality practice and professional boundaries.
  • Sound knowledge of professional networks and partners; Social Care, Youth Offending Teams, Police, The Youth Service, CAMH’s, Schools, Housing etc and how these operate.
  • A good awareness of systems change approaches and issues facing children, young people and their families, impacting on their ability to navigate systems.
  • Experience engaging, facilitating, and training professionals and advocating for young people using youth participation.
  • A strong commitment to equality and diversity in working relationships and practice.
