Job Title: 9-1-1 Telecommunicator
Department: Grundy County 9-1-1
Wages: $19.86 per hour / $43,374.24 per year
Summary
The Grundy County ETSB is currently accepting applications for full-time 9-1-1 telecommunicators to work at the Grundy County 9-1-1 center located in Morris, IL. We are a consolidated, emergency, Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) serving fifteen (15) police, fire and EMS agencies within the Grundy County Area.
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 + years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to accurately type at least 35 wpm using standard keyboarding methods
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a high stress environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information acquired while performing the job
- Ability to wear a headset that will cover one ear or fit within the ear canal and simultaneously hear conversation in the headset and other external sources
- Ability to pass pre-employment assessments which may include a typing test, written exam, background investigation, psychological exam, polygraph, medical exam, vision exam, hearing screening, drug screening, panel interviews, and other assessments as necessary
- Ability to function well as part of a team
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in a public safety environment, preferably in emergency communications
- Experience working with computers using a Windows based operating system
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs
Schedule
- Must have schedule flexibility during the training period which can last up to 6-months
- Permanent 12-hour shifts comprised of days (6am-6pm), nights (6pm-6am), and swing shifts as required to meet the needs of the department, are assigned upon completion of training following a rotation of three days on (Fri, Sat, Sun), two days off (Mon, Tue), two days on (Wed, Thu), three days off (Fri, Sat, Sun)
- Must be able to work overtime, including last minute overtime that may be deemed as mandatory
Work Environment
- Temperature controlled indoor workspace with kitchen amenities
- Often low light conditions
- May be seated for long periods of time
- May be required to lift up to 10 pounds, push, pull and carry objects
Summary of Job Duties
- Serve the public by answering emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, dispatching first responders, and directing callers to other essential local government services as needed
- Serve the police, fire and EMS responders by dispatching them to calls for service, logging activity, conducting safety checks, coordinating additional resources needed to manage an incident
- Serve the courts by entering and maintaining records in the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)
- Operate a variety of complex computer systems to include phone, radio, a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) program, Records Management System (RMS), GIS software, and internet-based applications and websites
- Administrative and clerical tasks which includes data entry, filing, and general maintenance of records
- Obtain and retain required certifications such as Emergency Medical Dispatch, LEADS and NCIC, Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS) and regular ongoing continuing education courses
- Stay informed of city and county ordinances, departmental policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs), state statutes, and other related information
- Assist with training of new personnel upon completion of probation
