Department Overview
Position Summary
The Security Operations Center Dispatcher position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure Children's campus through the operation of the Security Operations center (SOC). The Security Operations Center Dispatcher will monitor alarms, CCTV and access control systems. The Security Operations Center Dispatcher will be responsible for coordinating security and emergency responses and maintaining logs of calls for service. The Dispatcher's core role is to promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and hospital employees.
- Must possess excellent multi-tasking abilities.
- Must be capable of prioritizing tasks and setting priorities in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment.
- Excellent verbal, writing and computer skills required.
- Must be able to prepare verbal and written reports.
- Must complete and pass Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training within 90 days of hire.
- Must be able to wear respiratory protection (N-95 respirator, full face respirator and PAPR), be fit tested and able to pass respirator physical.
- Must be able to successfully pass background checks of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and Department of Human Services (DHS).
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice, Business, Psychology or Sociology preferred.
Experience:
- Prior experience in a security officer/public safety/dispatcher field preferred.
- Prior Law Enforcement or security dispatcher experience preferred.
- Emergency Operations Center experience preferred.
- Healthcare knowledge/experience preferred.
License/Certification Preferences:
- Certified 911 or Emergency Response Dispatcher preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills a must.
- Must be able to use or learn computer programs for dispatching officers, report writing, information database look ups, email, access control and video monitoring systems.
- Ability to operate, or learn to use, two-way radios, telephone, copier, fax and pager notification systems.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
- Ability to retain knowledge, information, and directions on an ongoing basis and communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to comprehend numerous policies, procedures, concepts and to be able to make decisions using discretion and interpretive judgment based on general and specific policies.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Must be customer service oriented.
- Knowledge of verbal and physical de-escalation, use of force continuum and arrest laws preferred.
- Ability to walk and climb stairs.
- Ability to see and hear accurately in both day and nighttime conditions.
- Skill in operating portable radio devices.
- Ability to detect irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards and emergency situations.
- Effectively contacts and interacts with emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel as required.
- Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
