Discord is looking for a technical, hands-on, and mission-driven experienced candidate to lead our User & Safety Data Science team! You will lead our efforts to understand who our users are, how they interact with our platform, and how we can leverage that information to make Discord an even better experience for current and future users. What you'll be doing Develop a strategy that improves our understanding of user behavior through novel instrumentation, metric design, experimentation, and strategic analysis Inform company and product strategies to broaden & deepen Discord’s appeal by partnering with senior leaders across the company Lead a high performance team of teams, coaching and growing managers and data scientists while encouraging a culture of ownership, strategic impact, and proactive engagement Build strong relationships across the company to establish yourself as the primary owner of user understanding, guide strategic planning, and inform decision-making What you should have You have 5+ years of experience as a people leader & 2+ years of experience managing managers You have 3+ years of analytics experience in two or more of the following, in the context of a large-scale consumer-facing user product: user lifecycle, user growth, user experience, safety/integrity You have technical proficiency in product analytics, self-service tooling (i.e. BI), and A/B testing You excel in an ambiguous fast-paced environment and can provide principled solutions within short timeframes, either directly or through your teams You are as comfortable debating and influencing VPs & the C-suite as you are exploring data and creating a high-quality dashboard You are insatiably curious and driven. You want to understand not just what is happening, but why it is happening - and use a hypothesis-driven approach to do so You have strong project management skills, with experience bringing Data Science, Data Engineering, and cross-functional partners together to deliver practical and impactful solutions Bonus Points Proficiency with BigQuery and/or Looker, with a keen eye towards performant SQL & clear, rich visualization Experience working closely with qualitative research teams Experience working with machine learning & data engineering teams Passion for Discord The US base salary range for this full-time position is $281,000 to $337,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
