Projects Director - Healthcare

Job purpose

An exciting opportunity for a dynamic projects director with extensive healthcare experience to work as part of the Professional Project Services team in support of the Healthcare sector of Mitie's Communities division. The role of the Projects Director will be to manage and deliver enterprise-wide projects, delivering step changes in the performance of people, asset, process and/or financial performance and business benefit. You will be responsible for growing and supporting projects across the healthcare portfolio on a national basis, ensuring contracts maximise their project revenue potential through lifecycle and capital projects and delivering successful and safe Projects to programme, budget and the required quality standard.

Whilst reporting into the Director of Projects the role will be part of the Healthcare sector leadership team and act as the sector MD's business partner and your focus will be on reaching the project growth aspirations of the sector MD. You will provide a very visible senior projects presence to the Contract leads and our external stakeholders, helping them drive opportunity through increased client confidence, intelligent delivery solutions, optimised resources, coupled with delivery excellence.

As a senior member of the Professional Projects Services function you will help shape and support the ongoing development and continual improvement of our function and championing the "Mitie Way" across the healthcare portfolio. The role is mobile and requires UK wide travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support contracts to grow projects across the healthcare sector on a national basis.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in compliance with the contract and governance arrangements;
  • Supporting contracts by facilitating the appointment of fit for purpose Consultants and Contractors.
  • Ensure Decarbonisation solutions are considered on every project and the benefits sold to the clients.
  • Regular review of resource levels with the Director of Projects and the sector MD to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet programme demand.
  • Management of direct reports, including recruitment, selection and development of staff as and when required.
  • Advice and support contracts on staff upskilling and training to drive a culture of industry leading self delivery.
  • Develop positive, supportive working relationships with teams and other colleagues ensuring collaboration and a one Mitie culture.
  • Develop relationships with key customers to promote confidence in delivery and increase project opportunities through effective upselling.
  • Coordinate the accurate monthly financial reporting and input into the MBR process relating to projects.
  • Ensure all procurement of services via the supply chain is carried out in accordance with the contract requirements and the agreed procurement strategy, maximising the financial benefits to Mitie.
  • Champion "Mitie First" whenever there is an appropriate self-delivery service line.
  • With the support of the Head of Project Safety ensure contracts understand and deliver to their appointed duties under the CDM 2015 regulations.

Knowledge skills and experience

Qualifications:

  • Preferably degree qualified in a Construction Discipline (although not essential).
  • Membership of a construction related institute e.g. RICS/CIOB/RIBA/CIBSE/MIET or APM Membership preferable.
  • IOSH or CITB safety qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior related role.

Experience:

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of project delivery within the Healthcare sector with demonstrable experience in leading and managing complex project programmes, building project teams and driving opportunity.

  • Experience working on PFI contracts and a strong knowledge of Health Technical Memorandums (HTM's) (essential)
  • Commercially strong and financially focused.
  • Fully conversant with all applicable legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and implementation of Professional Services and Construction contracts
  • Have the ability to plan projects using at least 1 industry standard programming package.
  • Competent in the use of MS Office suite of applications.
  • Experience in the use of CAFM systems (desirable).
  • Experience of working within the construction industry (essential).
  • Experience in change management.
  • Management experience in the appointment of consultants, sub-contractors and supply chain.
  • Collation of service data, detailed reporting and performance analysis.
  • Proven track record in successful people management.
  • Must be able to deliver the above at pace, working to multiple deadlines and delivering accurately.
  • Take a lead role in the development of project opportunities and help deliver growth across the portfolio.
  • You will be expected to work to your own initiative, whilst also working well as an integral team member.
  • Develop long-term relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.

Person

  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to create a sense of community amongst often disparate members of project teams.
  • Expert knowledge of project management approaches, such as APM.
  • Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
  • Sufficient seniority and credibility to advise and correct senior managers on their projects in relation to the performance and governance.
  • Flexible in approach to resolving issues and delivering programmes.
  • Champions change and encourages innovation and the implementation of new ideas.
  • Reinforces a team approach on client projects and internal initiatives.
  • Communicates effectively with clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies.
  • Provides senior level resolution to client issues.
  • Possess the moral courage to challenge the unacceptable and negotiate complex issues.
  • Hold a Full UK Driving licence.
