Are you an experienced DMPK scientist or DMPK project representative? Are you interested in how translational PK/PD, ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Excretion), and dose prediction can influence oligonucleotide/ RNA projects? If so, GSK is looking for a DMPK expert with a background in oligonucleotides who can help influence and grow our rapidly expanding work in RNA drug discovery and development.

The global GSK non-clinical DMPK (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics) organization is recruiting a DMPK project specialist to represent DMPK in the oligonucleotide field (Director or Associate Director depending on experience). GSK is expanding its interest in RNA science through investment in a new Discovery RNA unit in Boston (US) and through in-license of several high profile early and late-stage oligonucleotide assets. Ideally the candidate should be located close to the GSK oligonucleotide center of excellence in Boston (US) but other locations will be considered for the right candidate (e.g. GSK sites in Stevenage, UK, or Philadelphia, US).

This is an exciting role where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape early PK/PD translational strategies, help select the most appropriate oligonucleotide targets (based on drug at target) and influence in-license decisions for later stage assets. An important feature of this role will be to influence distribution strategies into tissues other than liver and kidney. As well as a background in DMPK, the ideal candidate should have knowledge of RNA chemistry and associated biology. Consideration will be given to candidates looking to develop into these attributes.

The ideal Director, DMPK Representative, Oligonucleotides should have extensive experience in representing DMPK to projects as well as an in-depth knowledge of RNA chemistry and associated biology.. Consideration will be given to candidates looking to develop into these attributes. The role will involve project representation to both discovery and development projects. Working collaboratively with project team members (including biologists, chemists, toxicology and clinical) on multiple projects and, across different therapeutic areas, you will be responsible for designing and executing the non-clinical DMPK strategy to identify the candidates with most appropriate DMPK properties and ensure a smooth project progression through discovery to candidate selection and then from candidate selection through to Launch.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career:

  • DMPK background supporting translational PKPD, modelling activities and ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion) as a project representative.
  • Knowledge or interest in oligonucleotide chemistry and biology. Potentially a developing leader in this field..
  • Capable of influencing projects and research units from both strategy and scientific perspective. Track record in support of multiple projects across different therapeutic areas which may include portfolio responsibilities.
  • Creation and delivery of verbal and written narratives in support of internal governance decision reviews and regulatory documentation. Excellent communicator.
  • Leader/coach/mentor of other project representatives expressing interest in developing into the RNA field. Puts significant effort into training, mentoring and coaching others.
  • Sustained record of highly effective collaboration, flexible and courageous thinking at team, department, project and/or portfolio level (or equivalent), leading matrix teams of cross-discipline scientists and coordinating key outputs to drive substantial change within GSK.
  • Clearly demonstrates strategic and learning agility, and readily moves between scientific and strategic issues.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with 7+ years experience in either DMPK or Oligonucleotide science
  • PhD with 3+ years, work experience in either DMPK or Oligonucleotide science
  • Experience with DMPK lines to discovery and/or development projects
  • Experience or interest in DMPK to include translational PKPD, modelling, ADME and bioanalysis.
  • Experience with RNA science.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Developing translational PKPD strategies and leveraging modeling approaches in support of dose predictions.
  • Good understanding of oligonucleotide distribution mechanisms and approaches to enhance delivery to targets of interest other than liver and kidney.
  • Recognized leader in RNA science.
  • Reviewing of external in-license opportunities and collaborations with academic and biotech groups.
  • An enthusiastic influential collaborator with a proven track record of building relationships and supporting high-performing teams from multiple disciplines.
