Director of Studies, Academic Programmes
Location: Kings London, Beckenham
Role description
The Director of Studies, Academic Programmes, has overall responsibility for managing the academic department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Allocate staff to appropriate courses; organise teaching groups at the start of the year and monitor them throughout the year
· Ensure that subject teachers fulfil the requirements of their job descriptions and ensure effective co-operation, collaboration and communication between teachers
· Ensure that academic teachers complete school monitoring, recording and reporting requirements to a high standard
· Support the continuing professional development of all academic teachers
· Assist in the development of the aims, policies and administrative procedures of the College and to ensure that these are implemented through the work of academic teachers
· Identify and recommend appropriate resources for the delivery of academic subjects to the department
· Be available to teachers and be able to offer advice, guidance and support; to oversee all aspects of appraisal of teachers
· Encourage the professional development of teachers by directing them to attend appropriate INSET and examination board Training Days, and attending such training courses
· Ensure a professional standard of teaching and learning is upheld through the monitoring of lesson planning and through lesson observations;
· Guide and support other senior staff in the academic department in their roles through academic management team and one-to-one meetings
· Assess prospective student applications to the academic department, as necessary, within a timely manner
· Receive agent visits to the College
· Advise designated students on university options as part of the UCAS counselling process
· Work with the Director of Academic Development in the successful delivery of academic programmes and the design and implementation of new courses

Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
Professional experience:
· Management of academic and/or English Language provision
· Delivering training
· Managing staff performance
· Relevant subject knowledge
· Teaching experience at an appropriate level
· Assessment skills including exam setting and marking
· Tracking student progress to help maximise achievement and attainment
Personal attributes:
· Well organised and excellent attention to detail
· Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
· Strong interpersonal skills and supportive of colleagues
· Ability to lead a team of teachers in curriculum and assessment matters
Formal qualifications:
· First degree in relevant subject
· Relevant teaching or other postgraduate qualification
Desirable attributes include:
· Experience as an examiner
· Proficient in Office suite programs
Successful appointment will be dependent upon:
· Enhanced DBS check (including photo ID check)
· Confirmation of right to work in the UK
· Satisfactory references (2 references required – comments on suitability to work with under 18s will be sought)
