Location: Utica, NY Category: Management Posted On: Thu Sep 14 2023 Job Description: Description of Duties: The Director of Athletics supports the mission of SUNY Poly by leading and directing a comprehensive athletics program that includes thirteen intercollegiate athletic teams, intramural and recreation programming, and physical education courses. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the SUNY Poly Athletics program is an NCAA III North Atlantic Conference (NAC) member. Direct, promote, assess, and manage all facets of the athletic program consistent with the mission of the institution, including the intercollegiate sports program, recreation and fitness programs, compliance, gender equity, fundraising, and the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Promote a vision for the Athletics Department in alignment with the institutional vision and communicate it to constituent groups; Coordinate long-strategic plans for the athletic program and athletic facility. Supervise the department's marketing, sports information, fund-raising, and development activities, working collaboratively with Communications, Development, and other constituent groups. Provide leadership and motivation to Athletics Department staff including the hiring, training, supervision, and timely evaluation of coaches and staff, and delegate specific responsibilities to ensure the efficient and productive operation of all administrative and operational functions of the department. Serve as the point person for departmental communication and ongoing mentorship and supervision of coaches, staff, and student-athletes Prepare and manage Athletic Department budgets (including budgets by individual sports); develop and implement long-range fiscal plans. Work closely with the Business Office for all purchasing and budgeting requirements. Foster a diverse and inclusive environment and work in collaboration with the CDO to enhance DEI initiatives within the department; work collaboratively with Enrollment Management, Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to enhance the overall student experience and ensure success in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes; Integrate colleagues from key offices into orientation/training/programming with coaches and student-athletes (networking, community building, and engagement, DEI, community standards, mental and physical health, Title IX, AOD prevention). Work closely with the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), Student Affairs, and Student Success to ensure success in the classroom, with coaches and staff to ensure success in competition, and Intercollegiate Athletics Board and SAAC to ensure success as members of the SUNY Poly community. Ensure compliance and adherence to the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the North Atlantic Conference (NAC), and the State University of New York. Represent SUNY Poly in the NCAA, NAC, SUNY, and other appropriate organizations. Work with the athletics compliance officer to maintain strict compliance with the regulations and standards of the intercollegiate athletics governing bodies and ensure a comprehensive process that integrates NCAA-recommended best practices within annual trainings. All Athletic Staff: coaches, staff assistants, administrative assistants, athletic trainers Job Requirements: Minimum Requirements: Demonstrated record of successful leadership within athletics with a minimum of five years of athletic administrative experience (supervisory, strategic planning, budgetary) in a collegiate setting. Bachelor's degree required (from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization). Proven leadership and management skills to include establishing and communicating priorities, developing strategic partnerships, and budget management. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, experience building a team and leading others. Strong written and oral communication skills. A commitment to excellence in competition and academic success; commitment to women's and men's athletic programs.. An understanding and appreciation of a small campus environment, NCAA Division III athletics, and campus integration. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree (from college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization) Prior coaching experience at the college level.
