OVERVIEW:
The Master of Science in Supply Chain Management program launched in August 2016. Client development is critical for this program’s success, as this new program targets experienced working professionals at corporations in the Twin Cities that would like to develop a robust supply chain talent pool. Our goal is to develop future supply chain leaders who view the topic through a strategic, global perspective.
The MS SCM Professional Director role requires significant client development efforts to recruit incoming students with 8-10 years of experience who are currently working full time. Approximately 90% of our inaugural class work full-time at corporate partners, with an average of 10 years of experience. In addition, one third of our first class are 100% sponsored.

In addition to recruitment, the Professional Director leads the Global Operations Strategy Capstone course. This experiential learning course offers students the opportunity to resolve a global supply chain issue for an external client, bringing the curriculum into practice. For this course, the Professional Director must secure projects, teach content, and coach & mentor student teams throughout the capstone experience, delivering an experience that elevates what these full-time professionals are learning on a day-to-day basis. This position is a professional/academic position, renewable annually. The salary range for this position is $150,000-$165,000 depending on qualifications.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Professional Director of the MS Supply Chain Management program is responsible for developing corporate partnerships to recruit MS SCM students, incorporate clients into our program delivery (i.e., guest lectures, course advisory, etc.), and obtain experiential learning projects for the capstone course, Global Operations Strategy. The Professional Director also leads the Global Operations Strategy course, including teaching, curriculum, and coaching & mentoring student teams.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Program Leadership (10%):

  • Manage MS SCM Program operations (budgets, marketing, materials, website, etc.) in coordination with support staff
  • Collaborate with Academic Director to ensure effective delivery of program
  • Outline marketing vision, including name, target audience, mission, logo, tag line, etc.
  • Approve/edit/refine marketing materials generated by MBA Program Office and Communications team
  • Refine value proposition
  • Define program policies as needed
  • Provide admission recommendations to identify optimal candidates for program
  • Serve as liason to others in Carlson and University of Minnesota to highlight program

Client Development (60%):
The Professional director is responsible for all external organization interactions with the MS in Supply Chain Management program.
Develop Corporate Partnerships to Yield Applicants

  • Define client development priorities, strategies and plans
  • Outline efforts to maintain strong existing relationships, develop early relationships, and create new partnerships
  • Work in conjunction with SCO Board of Advisors, BOO to achieve
  • Provide overview of the MS SCM program to external clients
  • Develop materials (brochure, website) to highlight benefits of new program
  • Offer Information Sessions to corporate partners
  • Determine client interest in sponsorship of MS SCM students
  • Outline what sponsorship entails
  • Make efforts to sustain sponsorship arrangements

Incorporate Clients into Program Delivery

  • Outline opportunities to external organizations to be involved in program delivery
  • Coordinate with Academic Director to ensure client resources are being used effectively with a goal of optimizing education provided

Secure & Deliver Global Operations Strategy Projects

  • Manage sales cycle to generate high-quality project/s for inaugural Experiential Learning course (generate sales leads, scope potential projects, develop and deliver sales proposals, negotiate fees, and close deals)
  • Manage client relationships on an on-gong basis including during projects to ensure client satisfaction as well as solicit feedback to support students' professional development

Teach, Coach, and Mentor MS SCM Students (30%):
The Professional Director is responsible for developing and delivering the MS in Supply Chain Management capstone experiential course, Global Operations Strategy.
Experiential Course Development

  • Develop or incorporate existing course materials into new Global Operations Strategy Experiential Course
  • Conduct benchmarking to confirm course is incorporating key Global Operations Strategy topics that are not covered elsewhere in MS SCM curriculum
  • Ensure redundancy does not exist with other MS SCM courses
  • Collaborate with faculty members to optimize course materials
  • Determine structure of external client projects for course (number of projects, how often will meet, split between lecture/team meetings, number of client interactions expected, form deliverables will take, etc.)
  • Conduct benchmarking with other programs (i.e., Global Operations Strategy course, Exec Ed) and schools to ensure optimal client/student experience within constructs of program
  • Determine potential barriers/risks to a strong client/student experience and address
  • Outline client expectations
  • Outline student expectations, including grading evaluation criteria

Student Coaching & Mentoring

  • Work closely with students and client sponsors of MS SCM projects to ensure successful educational and business outcomes
  • Coach student teams throughout the end-to-end project lifecycle, from launch to closeout and post-project review, supporting and empowering students to take leadership and ownership of their projects
  • Collaborate with CSOM faculty to identify and secure appropriate resources for projects (e.g., faculty subject matter experts)
  • Lead and coordinate systematic evaluation of student performance, share actionable feedback with students, and develop appropriate action plans that support students' professional development.
  • Assign grades for all MS SCM students for Experiential Learning course
