Director - Global Vaccines Scientific Communication

Within the Vx Global Medical Affairs team, the Scientific Communication Director will work in close partnership with the Vaccines brand teams to develop an integrated scientific communication strategy for our different portfolios. That integrated scientific communication strategy will ensure a streamlined data dissemination plan (including end to end congress strategy) that will contribute to our strategic scientific objectives and create a continuum for our customers. This role will provide strategic planning & insight coupled with the ability to deliver projects and content which contribute to the TA strategic scientific objectives. The outputs of this role will ensure that GSK’s science and data are communicated to the right audiences, at the right time through the most relevant channels for that Vaccine with the delivery based on customer insight and need and success demonstrated both quantitatively & qualitatively.

Key Elements of the Role:

  • Lead and/or collaborate on external engagement elements of the global TA’s medical plans

  • Lead and deliver on externally facing medical programmes and activities that support the TA’s strategic scientific objectives (e.g. for a single Vaccine, portfolio of Vaccines or disease areas more generally)

  • Provides a clear Vx Global MA External Engagement customer journey

  • Actively contribute and support to build and deliver the One TA global congress strategy

  • Accountable for the leadership of one or more of the congress working group(s) managing a complex matrix and executing delivery of the TAs priority congress presence as required

  • Successfully work across a complex matrix more broadly, understanding the needs of multiple disease areas and act as an expert in the delivery of excellence in scientific external engagement within the matrix

  • Act with a high degree of autonomy and expertise, leveraging an internal network for knowledge, input and support

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules and drives execution of core Medical Affairs deliverables and tactics relevant to the TA global medical plan with specific focus on the external scientific engagement deliverables as part of that plan

  • Representation and contribution to the One TA global congressing steering committee for Medical providing strategic input to the plan for innovation and efficiency in Vaccines global congress presence.

  • For priority congresses relevant to our portfolio, leadership, and management of the operational phases of the plan across priority TAs and ensuring alignment & collaboration with key markets

  • Work in partnership with the TA’s priority markets to co-create and drive exceptional HCP engagement journeys relevant to the OneTA’s global congress presence

  • Collaborates and supports on TA disease educational events providing expertise and insight into the best use of virtual and face to face approaches

  • Leadership and support to the global medicine’s teams on new external engagement initiatives across all foundational channels as part of the global medical digital objectives e.g. incorporating digital data and analytics in all materials used directly with customers

  • Develops non promotional and promotional materials, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and system requirements

  • Drive and provide leadership and coordination of appropriate risk management strategies relevant to the external engagement approaches within Vaccines as required e.g. Manages a programme risks and issues, including mitigation plans and resolution of actions

  • Proactively manage and engage with key stakeholders as required.

  • Fully understands and complies with local codes of practice, guidelines and laws to ensure the strictest requirements are met particularly with respect to delivery of non-promotional and promotional activities - preferably signatory trained and can act as mentor from time to time for other TA colleagues

Basic Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, medicine or pharmacy

  • Minimum of 3-5 years medical affairs experience within the pharmaceutical industry

  • ABPI signatory status: understanding of promotional codes/regulations; previous involvement in review and approval processes.

  • Solid understanding of digital environment and practices.

  • Track record of working in successful cross functional teams

  • Analytical, logical thought process with proven track record of strong matrix management, facilitation, and project management skills

  • Solid Technical capabilities in Excel, PowerPoint, and Team Sites

  • Ability to analyse and present complex data

  • Effective time management, ability to clearly identify priorities and manage multiple tasks

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Immunology, Biologics, Hepatology, Infectious diseases desirable.

  • Postgraduate degree PhD or PharmD

  • Regional or Global experience

  • Familiarity with existing GSK platforms (e.g. Veeva Vault, TeamSite, and GSK intranet)

  • Solid experience in Digital or Multichannel roles.
