About the Role
Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, London or Dublin
Salary: £118,200 - £177,400 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

EPM have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Energy Economics to join the business.
The Director of Energy Economics has three critical responsibilities:
- Leading a team of energy market professionals across all key disciplines (Fuels, Power Modelling, Power Economics, Power Codes, Energy Market Strategic Risk and International Markets) to provide best in class energy market analysis to the Group’s BUs, Group Executive Committee and Board;
- Contributing to the strategic, commercial and operational development and delivery of the Energy Portfolio Management BU as a member of the BU Executive Committee
- Acting as trusted independent adviser to the Group’s BU Executive Committees, Group Executive Committee, Executive Directors and Board.
As a result of these parallel responsibilities the role holder must operate across organisational boundaries and deliver independent advice at all organisational levels.
The key accountabilities in this role will be;
- Lead a team of 40+ energy market professionals, developing talent, capabilities and a problem-solving mindset required to analyst and make clear recommendations in relation to the Group’s ever increasingly complex Energy Market exposures.
- Preparation and recommendation to the Group Executive Committee of the LT fuel, power and non-commodity cost (NCC) price scenarios that are used across the SSE Group for all strategic planning, LT financial forecasting and asset investment decisions.
- Development of analysis and SSE’s recommended ‘house view’ / position in relation to all relevant industry codes.
- Support the Group’s expansion into new international markets through the delivery to relevant BUs and the Group Executive Committee / Board.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Expert experience in Economic & Commercial modelling and understanding.
- Ability to comprehensively understand and clearly articulate how and why EPM decisions are made, providing insightful input into EPM decision making where relevant.
- Expert in creative problem solving skills, openness and objectivity to intelligently coordinate and integrate multiple inputs from across EPM to develop rigorous recommendations and pragmatic and realistic solutions.
- Proven Leadership of team with wide remit and ability to build strong, trust-based relationships to effectively influence senior stakeholders across EPM and the business, exercising judgement on when and how to challenge EPM and BU priorities and decisions.
- Resilience when dealing with divergent perspectives and agendas, ability to operate in a highly pressurised environment and flexibility and adaptability to change.

Energy Portfolio Management (EPM) is the energy markets heart of the SSE Group, securing value for SSE's asset portfolios in wholesale energy markets as we move towards our vision of being a leading energy company in a net zero world. We play a critical role as the short-term energy market asset optimiser, and a long-term energy market adviser, for all SSE's Business Units (across SSE's Wind, Hydro, Low Carbon Thermal, Distributed Energy and Customer portfolios). This role for EPM enables SSE to focus its investment in energy markets capabilities (including Trading, Risk Management, Energy Economics, Settlements and Advanced Analytics) in one centre of excellence, with these enhanced capabilities supporting value creation and decision making across the SSE Group.
