Job Duties: This program director is accountable to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and
reports directly to the SWTJC Dean of Liberal Arts and Adult Education and Literacy. The AEL Director
is responsible for the administration and delivery of high quality, comprehensive adult education
services, including ESL, EL-Civics/Citizenship, ABE, Integrated Education and Training (IET) classes,
ASE/GED classes, employability and workplace literacy training, transitions classes, and career
pathway classes. Major responsibilities include planning and coordinating the 11-county region’s
program operations, overseeing accountability reporting and performance measurement systems.
The Director works cooperatively with area stakeholders and collaborating partners to develop
partnerships with public and private sector entities for student recruitment, referrals, and various
satellite instructional classes. The Director provides leadership on issues associated with adult
literacy and workforce development; keeps abreast of emerging trends and new developments in the
adult education field; supports Texas Workforce Commission’s advocacy and coalition-building
activities to build community and empower adult learners and families. In so doing, the Director is
responsible for coordinating and administrating all phases of the ADULT EDUCATION & LITERACY
component at Southwest Texas Junior College.
Salary: Commensurate with education and teaching and/or management experience. Twelve-month
position contingent upon Federal / State funding.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor Degree in Education or Business required; Master in Education or Business
preferred.
Experience & Training: Knowledge of Texas Adult Education and Literacy programs and adult
education learning theory preferred.
