We are looking to recruit a Legal Director – Cybersecurity to help lead and develop our evolving Cybersecurity legal service offering as we expand our Privacy, Data Protection and Cybersecurity team.

You will be responsible for supporting legal needs of corporate organizations, both suppliers and customers, of all sizes and profiles across the range of primarily cybersecurity related issues with a secondary focus to support our data privacy compliance services.

As a Director, you will also be responsible for initiating and leading the pursuit of new business development opportunities, project managing the day-to-day delivery of our legal services, and mentoring and training junior associates.

Candidates will need to have a real entrepreneurial interest in evolving a cybersecurity legal service offering within Deloitte Legal in parallel with Deloitte’s world class technical cybersecurity services in our risk advisory, forensics, and consulting service areas. Candidates will also need to have data privacy knowledge and experience across a range of sectors to also contribute to the delivery and management of our maturing data privacy practice.

The successful candidate will common law qualified and will have displayed experience across a range of topics across cyber, privacy and data protection including:

Cybersecurity:

  • Skilled in UK law, but globally focussed.
  • Small and large incident response efforts and advising companies across all industries on data breach response and other data security incidents
  • Managing or working with a 24/7/365 cyber breach response legal services offering.
  • Coordinating cyber security dispute matters alongside a specialist legal disputes team.
  • Cybersecurity audits and liability analysis, cyber insurance evaluation and employee security training.
  • Design and delivery of services to proactively mitigate the legal and business impact of security incidents such as table-top exercises, training programmes, etc.
  • Threat-intelligence monitoring and deep-look, long-term strategic data protection forecasting.
  • Interest in placing cybersecurity and data privacy at the heart of a client’s trust agenda.
  • Due diligence and support during M&A and other transactions, including those with cyber and cross-border data components.

Privacy and Data Protection:

  • Providing legal advice to clients on UK data protection law (GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, etc.).
  • Coordinating and delivering global data privacy compliance programmes.
  • Compliance with regulatory and industry-specific issues, including NIS, PECR, EU and UK GDPR, CCPA, CPRA and other national and state privacy laws.
  • Cross-border transfer issues.
  • Strategic relationships with third-party service providers to provide an enhanced range of services.
  • Drafting a variety of privacy and data protection documents including DPIAs, TIAs, DPAs, etc including working directly with clients in order to effectively obtain relevant information.
  • Managing multijurisdictional projects including coordinating legal advice and delivering work product to clients.
  • Drafting privacy policies, Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), consent documents and legal basis assessments.
  • Experience in assisting clients manage and respond to Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs).
  • Creating and maintaining records of processing activities (ROPAs) and implementing a variety of data mapping tools.
  • Project management in the delivery of privacy and data protection services.
  • Exposure to Legal Tech software and in particular Privacy Tech solutions including those from OneTrust, TrustArc, BigID, etc.
  • Negotiating and drafting data processing agreements and clauses as well as data sharing provisions.
  • Privacy audit management and third-party supplier management in a data privacy context.

  • Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • An enthusiastic and responsive approach to client requirements, comfortable with client contact and previous responsibility for client matters.
  • Excellent people skills and a good, clear communication style with the ability to liaise effectively with other fee earners from within the group, but also to liaise and coordinate with other departments and jurisdictions as required.
  • The ability and experience to project manage the delivery of complex matters alongside proven negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging, team-based environment.
