Job Description:

As the Communications Director, you will play a vital role in amplifying our mission, engaging stakeholders, and raising awareness about our services and programs. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team during a transformative phase, as you will be responsible for building the communications department from the ground up. We are seeking an individual who thrives on building teams, creating structure, and fostering a creative and collaborative environment.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have a solid knowledge of outreach and education within our community. As an excellent communicator, you will proactively build relationships with schools, local libraries, businesses, houses of faith, law enforcement, and courts. By understanding their specific needs and concerns, you will develop tailored messaging and communication materials that resonate with each stakeholder group.

Your leadership will be essential in establishing a culture of creativity, collaboration, and accountability within the communications department. You will have the opportunity to shape the team, recruit talented individuals, supervise and provide them with the support and resources they need to excel in their roles. Responsibilities:

  • Development: create and execute comprehensive communication strategies aligned with organizational objectives, core values, and core pillars.
  • Supervision: Build and lead a high-performing communications team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to team members.
  • Branding: Craft compelling messaging and ensure consistent branding across all communication channels, including social media, website, newsletters, and press releases.
  • External Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with schools, local libraries, businesses, houses of faith, law enforcement, and courts to understand the unique outreach and education needs of our community.
  • Outreach & Education: Provide tailored messaging and communication materials to effectively engage and educate different stakeholders.
  • Social Media: Drive social media engagement by creating and curating content that educates, raises awareness, and sparks meaningful conversations and connection.
  • Internal Relationships: Collaborate with program teams to identify and highlight impactful stories, success stories, and client experiences.
  • Campaigns: Plan and execute awareness campaigns and events to promote our core pillars and engage the community.
  • Data: Monitor communication analytics and use data-driven insights to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Professional Development: Stay updated with industry trends, emerging platforms, and best practices in communications.
  • Set industry trends and raise the standard; we are dedicated to breaking barriers, amplifying voices, and disrupting current standards to propel communities and to advance access and opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role, with a focus on nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed, human-centered approaches and the ability to translate complex concepts into relatable messaging.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and platforms.
  • Proficiency in social media management, content creation, and analytics tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a creative mindset and the ability to develop innovative communication initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for social justice, advocacy, and making a positive impact in the community.
