Role Title: Director, Climate Communications
Location: 1 Churchill Place, London, UK, E14 5HP
What will you be doing
In response to the growing focus and importance of the Climate agenda, this new role is created to centrally coordinate climate communications across the bank, with the goal of articulating Barclays’ climate strategy internally and externally, and positioning Barclays as a trusted partner to our clients in the transition to net zero, which aligns to Barclays’ third growth priority.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the MD, Head of Climate Communications to design and deliver the Bank’s group-level multi-channel communications activities, internally and externally, such that stakeholders recognise Barclays’ expertise in finance and climate transition as innovative and industry-leading and supports Barclays’ ambition to become the trusted partner of choice for clients and other stakeholders, including:
- The creation and execution of a compelling narrative for climate transition as part of Barclays’ group-wide growth strategy
- Building the profile of key spokespeople with media and influential stakeholder audiences
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
- Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders in the below areas:
- Be a trusted partner and adviser to senior stakeholders to manage a wide range of sensitive and complex issues relating to the climate agenda. The role holder will be assessing risks and opportunities, especially with regards to reputation risk and media risk. They will formulate effective solutions, develop content, and negotiate internally and externally to influence the outcome of such issues in a positive way.
Risk and Control Objective
- Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
- Sound industry, business and policy understanding
- Proven track record in communications with demonstrable experience
- Ability to translate complex business priorities into clear and compelling multi-disciplinary communications plans
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to work at pace, with tight deadlines and a strong focus on execution
- Ability to think strategically and creatively to solve problems
- Strong influencer and negotiator, with commercial acumen, who understands Barclays’ strategy and growth priorities alongside the organisational structure
