We are looking for an individual who can provide expertise and pace to deliver high quality diversity, inclusion and wellbeing programmes of work to make DIO a place where individuals feel safe, supported and enabled in their roles. The D&I and Wellbeing Advisor will understand people policy to support the design and delivery of interventions to develop employee awareness and knowledge on these subject areas. The individual will need to adapt quickly to changes in the environment and solve problems with a can-do attitude.

The DIO Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Advisor will primarily focus on diversity and inclusion alongside an Advisor whose primary focus is Wellbeing. The DIO Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Advisor is accountable for ensuring:

DIO has a good quality evidence base to make decisions and direct resources.

Each person who works in DIO feels and believes they are treated fairly and that the work practices and environments accurately support their individual needs to enable them to do their job effectively.

Business leaders and managers both individually and collectively in DIOs planning, organisation and operational delivery, factor diversity and inclusion into their decision makings intuitively.

Individual members of staff understand their role and take ownership for making the DIO diversity and inclusion philosophy a reality such that policies are implemented and the gap between the rhetoric and experience is closed.

Person specification

The D&I and Wellbeing Advisor will:

  • Support the delivery of the DIO Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan and Communications Plan ensuring they are aligned with the MOD Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful engagement with key partners including the DIO Diversity Champion, the Defence Diversity and Inclusion Programme Board (DDIP) Working Group, Recruitment, Communications, Engagement, Academy, MGS, HRBPs, SCS to ensure they DIO Plan is implemented across all business areas of DIO.
  • Provide timely updates on progress of the DIO Plans and Levels of Ambition to the DIO HR Director in preparation for the Defence Diversity and Inclusion Programme Board (DDIP).
  • Support the delivery of a rolling plan of interventions, awareness campaigns, and resources for actively promoting best practice for diversity, inclusion and wellbeing.
  • Proactively source and arrange speakers for the annual Lived Experience Event ensuring the whole booking and arrangement process is managed from start to finish.
  • Write impactful communications for distribution across DIO and update our digital media platforms (front facing SharePoint pages and pan-DIO Teams channel).
  • Provide support to manage the D&I related people risks and opportunities through to future DIO.
  • Support the delivery of DIOs Wellbeing Strategy and Delivery Plan.
  • Provide guidance to the D&I Champion, Network Champions and Network leaders in order to deliver DIO D&I outputs
  • Responsible for developing and enabling the DIO D&I Network leaders to deliver D&I targets and goals.

Employment Hours

The post advertised is for 37 hours net, however the Ministry of Defence offers a range of flexibilities to enable a better work-life balance for employees. Flexible working, Compressed Hours, Part-Time working and Job Share working patterns will be considered.

We want to offer opportunities to all who are successful at interview for our roles, but this isn't always possible, so we do hold candidates on an active reserve list for 12 months.
