Job overview

This job, as a Digital Services (ICT) Applications Trainer will see you delivering training sessions in NUH ICT systems, specifically the new Maternity System which is to be used at both Nottingham University Hospital and Sherwood Forest Hospitals. Once trained, you will work alongside your colleagues in Digital Services using your problem solving skills to solve ICT issues, as well as regularly delivering online and in person training sessions in ICT to NUH staff.

This job also has a large element of training materials writing/ editing using industry standard software.

Though some existing experience in medical IT systems would be helpful, the ability to quickly understand and use new ICT systems is vital as you will be working across every aspect of the ICT here at NUH, and regularly switching between them.

The job is within the team responsible for training NUH staff in using our varied Patient IT systems including:

'Medway PAS’ Patient Administration System
‘NotIS’ Nottingham Information System
‘Webhiss’ medical office software
‘RA Smartcard’ issuing and access systems
‘SCR’ (summary care record)
‘NUH Patient IT system access’; such as ‘Choose and Book;
‘Nervecentre’ for recording outpatients notes
‘Nervecentre’ for EPMA (Electronic Prescribing medicines Administration)
‘Nervecentre’ for inpatient nursing notes
‘DrDoctor’ for patient questionnaires and communication

Main duties of the job

This job involves:

You will deal with support issues related to the ICT systems at NUH, working out what users need and setting their access to the various systems so staff can work effectively.

Set up training dates for staff ICT training sessions.

Give staff the appropriate access levels for our ICT clinical systems.

Issue smartcards to NUH staff.

Develop, edit and create learning materials using Microsoft PowerPoint, Techsmith Camtasia and Adobe Captivate.

Solve 2nd line ICT support queries from NUH staff.

Liaise with other DS staff to resolve problems.

Record, using NUH systems, the work you do.

Provide training and organise ICT access for NUH staff, group size from one to one sessions up to 150 people at once.

Usually these sessions would be face to face in our onsite training rooms, but may also be online through Microsoft Teams and other systems.

Ideally you will already have experience in using software packages to create in person and online training materials, and full support will be given to you in learning aspects you are new to. We create many learning materials using templates and elements of existing training sessions so you will rarely be starting from scratch.

Each day will see you using your problem solving and interpersonal skills to solve real life ICT issues for NUH staff, with the satisfaction of resolving sometimes tricky ICT issues for the nurses, doctors and administration staff that make a hospital work effectively, and a link to some of the existing training materials that the team has developed for NUH staff.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Achieved an IT computer qualification (ECDL or equivalent).
  • English and maths GCSE (or equivalent)

Desirable criteria

  • Degree (or equivalent) in training.
  • Awareness of ITIL Service Management methodology.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of ‘one to one’ and/or Group training delivery.
  • Provision of a support service to end customers.
  • Advanced skills within Microsoft office products (powerpoint, outlook, word, excel)

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of delivering IT information systems training in a hospital setting.
  • Ability to create new training material and courses based on sound analysis of training needs and evaluation.
  • Experience of allocating ICT access
  • Experience of creating e-learning materials
  • Specialist knowledge of more than one of the core Clinical IT Systems used within the Trust.

Communication and relationship

Essential criteria

  • Good communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to provide advice on training for IT systems to all hospital staff.
  • Customer focused and able to create, build and maintain relationships.

Desirable criteria

  • Delivery of quality training working to a recognised standard e.g.ISO9000
  • Demonstrates knowledge of ICT related policies e.g. Data Protection

Analytical and Judgement skill

Essential criteria

  • Good analytical and problem solving skills for all aspects of training, access and support.
  • Liaison with customers including management of complaints and potential conflict over limited resources.

Desirable criteria

  • Audit experience to evaluate training is appropriate for the client in their workplace.

Planning and organisation skil

Essential criteria

  • Able to work on own initiative and as a team member.
  • Effective planning and maintenance of a training schedule and associated material e.g. lessons plans, user guides.
  • Responsible for own personal development
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently often with similar deadlines

Physical skills

Essential criteria

    • Advanced keyboard/mouse skills, Ability to operate a laptop and projector.
    • Ability to manage an audience of delegates, with varying skills and doubts, by using sensory skills
  • Able to work in an office based environment with prolonged periods of PC usage or frequently required to stand for long periods of times (up to 3 hour periods) whilst delivering courses/presentations.

Desirable criteria

  • Comfortable delivering workplace training in ‘sensitive’ areas of the hospital such as Wards & Theatres.

Other requirements

Essential criteria

  • Willing to work at short notice at either campus contrary to designated training schedule.
