DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Marketing department consists of five teams – 1. Core Marketing 2. Brand 3. Media & Continuity 4. Pictures 5. Marketing Operations. Together they are responsible for leading a coherent brand and content marketing strategy for the organisation’s network of channels, services and programmes; prioritising, planning and implementing all on- and off-air marketing campaigns. Notable content marketing campaigns include Married at First Sight UK, Derry Girls, It’s A Sin, The Paralympics and The Great British Bake Off.
Marketing collaborates closely with the wider Marketing and Viewer Experience teams (MVE), including 4Studio and 4Creative.
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Marketing Lead, the Marketing Executive is an integral member of the content marketing team, helping to produce on-air and off-air marketing for the programmes in their genre area.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing Executives have a particular responsibility for overseeing the briefing and delivery of the network marketing trails in their genre are, liaising with the commissioning and 4creative teams. The Marketing Exec will also support the Marketing Lead with production and management of deliverables on the high-profile ‘360’ hero campaigns.
A safe pair of hands, aiding the smooth running of the team’s creative output, able to operate with autonomy. Responsibilities include:
Campaign management:
Manage the delivery of on-air and in-stream promos and other marketing assets, including:
- Sourcing programme material and editorial details
- Agreeing trailer brief with a commissioner
- Communicating the brief to 4creative
- Presenting plans and edits to internal stakeholders for input
- Supporting the collaboration between several teams by scheduling meetings, sending agendas, taking minutes and updating a team status tracker
- Sourcing programme material, editorial details and critical information
- Managing production and sign-off of creative assets (e.g. TV, Digital, Social, Out Of Home, Print, Branding)
- Building detailed make-lists to match media plans
- Assisting with live campaign optimisation
- Helping coordinate post campaign analysis
Maintaining good relationships with internal departments and external partners to ensure they are aware of and supporting marketing activity. This includes 4Creative, Commissioning, Scheduling, Viewer Engagement, Media Planning and syndicated platforms.
Working with agencies:
Working with our appointed media agency and establishing yourself as a point of contact.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Technical and professional skills
- Proven marketing experience (broadcast, client or agency)
- Clear and demonstrable passion for both TV and marketing
- Understanding of the role of marketing within Channel 4 and a good knowledge of the Channel 4 network
- Strong project management skills
- A good understanding and knowledge of social media
- Good relationship building and communication skills
- Energy, passion, confidence and commitment
- Strong creative judgement
- Ability to assess and critique marketing ideas against campaign objectives
- Able to manage upwards
- Develop strong relationships with 4creative and Commissioning
- Be the first port of call for promo marketing queries
- Excellent communication skills
- Awareness and commitment of the Marketing team’s wider objectives and role within the organisation
- Awareness of commercial objectives
All members of the Marketing team are expected to be able to work flexibly across media and genres, contributing to ad hoc projects or supporting different areas as required. These will be discussed individually and based on skills and abilities.
