Are you an experienced Dietitian looking for an opportunity to gain experience in clinical research and develop skills in ageing mental health?
We are commencing an exciting new clinical trial called MET-FINGER (Multimodal METformin and FINGER lifestyle intervention to prevent cognitive impairment and disability in older adults at risk for dementia). This is a large international, multi-centre, trial investigating whether, in adults aged 60-79, healthy lifestyle guidance on diet and activity, including intensive monitoring of cardiovascular diseases' risk, and a drug used to treat diabetes (metformin) have an effect on the risk of developing dementia.
Duties and responsibilities
The dietitian will lead the dietary arm and all aspects which fall under this including but not exclusive to:
- Support the PI in trial set-up and delivery
- Use advanced communication and behaviour change skills to support patients to undertake eating changes
- Act as a source of expertise, in the education of participants in healthy eating
- Assess, record and manage participants dietary progress
- Promote and maintain effective communication with participants, study partners and members of the research team
- Line manage the Nutritionists (Band 4) time and responsibilities
Essential requirements
This post would suit an individual who has knowledge of the disease area or working with older adults, is patient centred, provides evidence-based knowledge and can demonstrate good attention to detail. Crucial for applicant to have degree in a BDA accredited Dietetics course (BSc or MSc) and several years’ experience within health care.
