Job Outline:
To work as part of a team setting and operating Diamond Turning Machines within the UPMC Department. Producing a range of optics to a high specification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operation of Diamond Turning Machines and Metrology Equipment
- Liaising on a technical basis with shop and product engineers and internal customers
- Systematically investigating and identifying faults / problems and recommending and implementing appropriate corrective actions
- Operating under minimum supervision and the ability to work as part of a multi-skilled team
Personal Specification:
Candidates should demonstrate a good level of education (at least a grade C or above in Maths and English O Level/GCSE or equivalent), mechanical aptitude and an appreciation of mechanical principles, but above all the willingness to learn. Candidates should be flexible and keen to learn new processes and procedures with a positive attitude and ‘can do’ approach.
It is essential that all candidates have the following
- IT literacy
- Proactive attitude and have a proven ability to work using their own initiative.
- A methodical approach to working, and high attention to detail.
- Proven ability to work under pressure to achieve demanding objectives.
- Some experience in working within a manufacturing environment. (Add as bullet point to essential list)
It would also be a great advantage if applicants had Optical Handling experience, however given the specialised nature of our business full training will be given.

Salary: £27,000.00-£34,000.00 per year
