Device Engineer
Within GSK’s Research and Development Organisation sits the Device Engineering team; an in-house device development group charged with the delivery of robust, patient-centric devices that enable the effective delivery of novel pharmaceuticals. Device Engineering is a multi-skilled team of Engineers and Scientists who work across all stages of the product and process development lifecycle, from concept design and selection through to the regulatory submission and commercial supply.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Device Engineer to support the development of new drug device combination products. You will be a graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related degree and will have experience of applying methodologies to interrogate and build understanding of device designs and mechanisms. You will be familiar with testing approaches for devices and have experience of test protocol development and reporting.
You must be able to demonstrate your ability to work as part of a matrix team to deliver projects as well as working with external partners to support project delivery. Additionally, you need to be able to demonstrate problem solving skills and utilisation of different strategies to resolve challenges associated with device design assessment and verification.
In this role you will
- Design empirical test programmes to demonstrate device robustness across input specifications
- Collaboration with internal and external project teams to establish robustness and verify the design of our drug delivery platforms
- Engagement with cross functional team to identify factors which influence device performance
- Management of external suppliers to ensure development activities align with GSK expectations
- Engage with analytical teams to ensure flawless execution of test protocols

- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related
- Excellent understanding of mechanical principles and systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in developing test strategies and protocols and reports
- Evidence of problem solving
- Strong time management/organisational skills
- Performance driven, driving for results and success with a sense of urgency
- Evidence of team working skills and flexibility
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
- Awareness of typical device manufacturing processes (e.g. plastic injection moulding)
- Experience of external supplier management
- Awareness of quality and regulatory standards associated with combination product device development
