Job Summary
The Student Development Specialist III will provide specialized career development guidance to assist graduate students in developing competencies required to pursue academic and career opportunities and achieve professional career development through workshops and presentations. The Student Development Specialist III must take initiative and be a self-starter as it relates to the increase and maintenance of student engagement and career readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with EDGE (Empowerment, Development, and Growth in Education) Center staff and faculty/staff within each college to develop curriculum for and conduct career development related workshops and presentations.
- Provide graduate students with career information, assistance, and goal setting to help prepare them for a complex and fast-changing workforce.
- Coordinate with external Dallas-Fort Worth area businesses and technology firms and Graduate School to facilitate Guest Speakers/Special Events/ College Fairs.
- Work in partnership or collaboration with the Career Center to update the university’s internship database and develop and update a database of career opportunities for graduate students.
- Interact with university departments, special groups and external agencies in administering programs to strengthen collaborations with campus stakeholders (Steering Committee, Department heads, Career Center, Faculty, etc.).
- Develop data collection tools (e.g., post-activity surveys, participation tracking tools) for project’s implementation.
- Assist Director to ensure attainment of program goals and objectives.
- Performs other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Two (2) years of experience working in higher education, career development, human resources, student services, or a related field.
- Solid verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of career programming, writing skills, mentoring, and other related services at the graduate student level.
- Ability to work autonomously and in team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree with one (1) year of experience working in higher education, career development, human resources, student services, or a related field.
- Demonstrate experience in successfully supporting students in creating career preparation plans and supporting resource materials and skills (resume creation and editing, interview coaching, networking, etc.)
- Experience in developing and conducting workshops/seminars.
- Experience implementing of program initiatives with a specific focus on serving minority and traditionally underserved students in higher education.
- Knowledge of career counseling theories and contemporary job search techniques.
