BBC STUDIOS FACTUAL ENTERTAINMENT is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic ideas generator with a passion for factual entertainment to join our development team. If you’re constantly coming up with bold new ideas for shows, as well as binge-watching every new reality series, we’d love to hear from you.
We are looking for a Development Researcher with a proven track record in developing distinctive factual entertainment and reality ideas for a range of broadcasters and platforms.
We would like to meet original thinkers who love to come up with fresh ideas, and who can shape toplines into fleshed out formats, with distinctive format beats. You’d be expected to contribute to slates for commissioner meetings with new ideas and thorough research to help nail why ideas are timely and compelling.
You’d be asked to lead brainstorms, write up ideas into decks, assist with design and work on sizzles to help sell concepts. You should be a voracious consumer of unscripted content, on linear, SVODs and other digital platforms, and you should be passionate about talent and finding vehicles for both established and emerging names.
Main ResponsibilitiesThis development team focuses on winning commissions in the UK and develops for linear broadcasters and the SVODs. Our remit is to create returnable, global Factual Entertainment brands therefore, a good knowledge of the UK market is desirable.
You will have a strong track record of coming up with exciting new concepts that have the potential to be returnable, sellable and scalable that will resonate with an international audience. You will also be able to think through formats to make your and the team’s ideas as distinctive as possible.
You will have a strong understanding of what makes a hit factual entertainment series. You will appreciate the varying sensibilities of different channels and commissioners and will tailor your ideas accordingly.
You will need to show you have good writing skills and you will need to be a good team player and communicator.
Are you the right candidate?You will have a minimum of 1 years’ experience at Development Researcher level in the factual entertainment genre.
Proven success in coming up with ideas for original non-scripted formats in the reality, competition and bold formats space.
Thorough research skills to ensure ideas have a strong ‘why now’ and authenticity at their heart.
You will have a passion for developing new content across channels and platforms with the desire to build on the success of our established brands.
You will relish developing creative and innovative new ideas showing an awareness of the television market in the UK and the US, keeping across new trends and talent within television, in particular with regards to reality.
Working across a slate of development ideas and managing time and resources, you will have excellent communication skills, writing fast turnaround documents and contributing to the production of decks and taster tapes to aid with winning commissions.
Experience of Powerpoint and Premiere is preferred.
Excellent people skills.
Production experience is desirable but not required.
Experience in handling confidential and/or controversial information with tact and sensitivity.
