BBC STUDIOS FACTUAL ENTERTAINMENT is looking for a Development Exec for their busy Bristol office with a proven track record of developing distinctive factual entertainment ideas, from original conception to pitch, for a range of broadcasters and platforms.
We are looking for original thinkers who love coming up with fresh ideas, who bring energy and enthusiasm to brainstorms and the ideas and ambition to develop the next generation of genre defining, returnable formats. You will be expected to produce compelling treatments and pitch materials, lead brainstorms, spot exciting new talent to work with, produce sizzles (either cutting yourself or working with an editor) and design decks. We are looking for people who enjoy working up ambitious formats with scale.
Main ResponsibilitiesThis development team focuses on winning commissions for linear broadcasters and the SVODs. Our remit is to create returnable, global Factual Entertainment brands – incorporating everything from Daytime to Features, Popular Factual, Competition Formats and Premium Reality. A thorough knowledge of the UK market is crucial and an understanding of the US market desirable.
Reporting to the Head of Development and working closely with our Factual Entertainment Creative Leads, you will be across projects from initial idea to completion, running slates and pitching ideas to commissioners.
You will be expected to come up with exciting new concepts that have the potential to be returnable, sellable and scalable which will resonate with an audience both in the UK and internationally. You will also be able to think through formats and solve problems to make your and the team’s ideas as distinctive as possible. You will be passionate about talent and finding vehicles for both established and emerging names.
You will have a strong track record of coming up with imaginative and commissionable programme proposals. You will need to demonstrate you can write punchy, effective decks, and you will have highly developed team-working and communication skills with the ability to identify opportunities for collaborations.
Are you the right candidate?You will have a minimum of 2 years of experience at a minimum of Senior Development Producer level working specifically to develop Factual Entertainment ideas for linear television and streamers.
Proven success in devising and producing original non-scripted formats in the reality, competition, popular factual and bold formats space.
You will have a passion for developing new content across channels and platforms with the desire to build on the success of our established brands.
You will relish developing creative and innovative ideas, showing an awareness of new trends and talent within the television market.
Working across a slate of development ideas and managing time and resources, you will have excellent communication skills, writing fast turnaround punchy, effective pitching documents and producing taster tapes in order to aid successful commissions.
Experience of Keynote and Premiere is preferred.
Excellent people skills.
Production experience is desirable but not required.
Experience in handling confidential and/or controversial information with tact and sensitivity.
