Hybrid working - 1-2 days per week in the office. Maternity Cover - 12 month fixed term contract.


Job Overview


The Development Engineering role is a hybrid role having knowledge, skills and experience in developing, testing and the delivery/management of application software in today’s world of Cloud computing. This will include both front and back-end development of the main Nalytics product and related solutions, development and execution of manual and automated tests to ensure quality and robustness and finally the deployment and management of the solutions within the cloud environment.


The candidate must be a problem-solver with great attention to detail. Since end user interaction and teamwork are important aspects of the role, excellent communication and people skills are imperative. The candidate will proactively manage development and system requirements and address any relevant challenges and problems.


The candidate will also perform standard testing and provide high quality solutions to ensure high levels of performance and adherence to customer requirements in line with Nalanda Technology standards.

The candidate will draw upon their development and problem solving skills to work within a small team, sometimes on their own, to develop new approaches and techniques applicable to improve the Nalytics platform and its deployment/manageability.


The role will report to the COO work with the CTO, development team and Product Management.


Experience

  • A passion for innovating and producing intuitive easy to use software
  • Development experience using java and web-based technologies, with proven skills in the areas of developing highly performant, robust and scalable real-world solutions.
  • Experience and knowledge of UX best practices
  • Understanding of accessibility standards (including W3C) and implementation.
  • Web development: HTML, CSS, responsive deign etc.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JavaScript libraries, Ajax and other web based UI technologies.
  • Experience of manual and automated testing
  • Experience of writing test scripts
  • Experience and knowledge of DevOps technologies and approaches
    • Docker & Kubernetes
    • Docker container creation
    • ARM Templates deployment
    • Jenkins
  • Working knowledge and experience or Azure, AWS or Google Cloud platforms
  • Experience and knowledge of ISO standards 9000/27001 and Cyber Essentials

Main Responsibilities and Duties


Implementation Support

  • Examine and evaluate current systems, both internal to Nalanda Technology and those of our clients and prospects
  • Identify requirements and document recommendations
  • Liaise with users and colleagues to track additional requirements and features
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies, technical developments and new methodologies
  • Produce and add to project reports for internal and external reporting lines

Software Development and testing

  • Continuous improvement of the Nalanda product set
  • Researching, design and development of highly usable products
  • Translating concepts and ideas into prototypes that can be evaluated and real products that will meet specific requirements and demands in our target markets
  • Working with CTO, Product Management and Development colleagues to research, define, create and implement new products utilising the latest development technologies
  • Carrying out stress testing, performance testing, functional testing and scalability testing
  • Writing and executing test scripts
  • Writing bug reports
  • Running bug reviews with Product Manager to assess and prioritise defects

DevOps

  • Management of Cloud console platforms, including creation and management of resources for internal and customer requirements
  • Creation of Docker containers for Nalytics platform
  • Deployment automation, monitoring and management
