This role is based in our studio in Redruth, Cornwall. It is not a remote working role.

Since our launch in 1996, Whistlefish has become a leading art and greetings card retailer in the South West. We sell a wide selection of cards, wrapping paper, art prints, canvas art and gifts direct to customers through a network of 12 galleries and a burgeoning online presence.

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual with a talent for illustration and flair for creativity to join our team. This role will suit someone with prior experience in a design studio, producing designs in a commercial setting that support overall business objectives. You’ll be buzzing with ideas from day one and be eager to contribute your ideas to the team. You need to be agile and eager to hone your skills whilst working in a fast paced environment. Your portfolio will be full of examples of a variety of greeting cards and wrapping paper that are forward thinking and beautiful. A passion for colour and composition is a must alongside a keen eye for detail and the ability to keep pushing your ideas outside of the ordinary.

Day to day you will;

• Research trends and create comprehensive mood boards
• Bring fresh ideas, strengthening the overall product range
• Produce designs for greetings cards, wrap, gifts and art
• Present product concepts, at various working stages of development, for review and direction
• Provide production-ready artwork in our required formats
• Keep collection overviews up to date
• Create tech packs for suppliers for gifting products, art working onto templates
• Help support other members of the team in their progression with feedback, guidance and ideas

We are looking for someone with;

• Exceptional hand drawing skills
• A versatile illustration style
• Able to work with many mediums including paints, pastels, pencil and ink
• Ability to use illustration software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, ProCreate
• Knowledge of finishes and how to use these on products
• High standard of handwritten typefaces
• Excellent knowledge of typography and their impact on design
• Knowledge of colour theory and ability to devise beautiful palettes
• Experience producing files ready for production
• Experience of producing repeat patterns
• Experience in a studio environment
• Prior knowledge of the greetings card industry

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £28,000.00-£33,000.00 per year

• Monday to Friday

• Redruth, TR16 4AX: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
