Job description

Job Introduction

To apply for this job through BBC Extend you must have a disability (hidden or visible) or neurodiversity recognised by the Equality Act 2010: “A person has a disability if they have a physical or mental impairment, and the impairment has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on their ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities. This definition includes impairments or medical conditions such as Cancer, HIV or MS.”

As Designer, you would be working within the Graphics Department of BBC Scotland as part of a larger creative team of designers. Our team at BBC Scotland develop and deliver content across a variety of platforms but mainly TV output from News, Politics, Sport, Current affairs and Entertainment. The role has become available as one of our designers has moved into a Senior Designer role.

We are committed to making the process of applying for this programme right for you as an individual, so we have both the Extend team to manage the process and also our own dedicated BBC Disability Access Service that provides assessments and support throughout recruitment and during your employment with us.

The role would involve working shifts as set out by the scheduling department. This would include weekend and evening working. Workplace adjustments to accommodate any disability or neurodiversity will be made on a case by case basis.

Main Responsibilities

Your specific responsibilities would vary depending on which programme you are shifted to.

In the main this would include creating engaging graphic content for use on our main television programmes including Reporting Scotland, The Nine, An La and Sportscene

Graphics would be discussed and commissioned by the production team to meet the editorial plan for that show.

You would then take responsibility for, and be accountable for, delivering the graphic to brief and before the agreed deadline.

A typical Reporting Scotland shift would involve creating graphics that would feature in edited packs and live animated sequences in the studio.

Are you the right candidate?

The most important attributes we are looking for are creativity, good communication skills, willing learner, proactive attitude, reliable team player and comfortable in a fast-paced changeable environment.

You must be an experienced user of Adobe Creative suite, specifically Adobe After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator. Training will be provided in one of our other main tools, Vizrt.
