Job description
Employer: SWNS
Title: Junior Designer
Employment type: Full time
Location: Bristol
Salary: From £23,200
A rare opportunity has arisen to join the magazine department at SWNS - Britain’s most dynamic news content provider.
Alongside our core news agency operation at SWNS, we create several real life titles in their entirety on behalf of major publishers. These include Pick Me Up! and Chat monthly.
We are looking for a confident and creative Junior Designer to join our talented team.
Candidates must be genuinely passionate about magazines and be driven to create innovative editorial pages that are engaging and on brand.
The role:
As Junior Designer, you would be responsible for taking real life and lifestyle content from the editorial team and transforming it using InDesign into layouts across all of our magazines.
The role requires the ability to thrive under the daily challenge of adapting to different titles while understanding the importance of every single visual decision.
You would be working to tight deadlines and be involved in the continued production of the pages until the layouts are ready for print so you must be organised and obsessed with perfection.
It is also essential that you can balance creativity with the practical responsibilities of making sure each layout is on brand and meets print requirements.
All applicants must have:
- A skilled knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Experience in magazine or editorial design
- A degree or equivalent professional qualification in design
- A strong portfolio of designs that demonstrate excellent layout skills, creativity and attention to detail
- The ability to take artistic direction while delivering exciting new ideas
- The drive to be a friendly, enthusiastic team player

We also work with hundreds of contributors and major publishers to licence and monetise their content. Alongside our core news agency operation, SWNS supplies a wide range of editorial and bespoke commission services ranging from assignments for brands to full outsource production services for publishers.
