Required Skills
This position will assist in the preparation of all Theatre Design Documents for IMAX Theatres and provide support to the Theatre Design team to meet all Department commitments to support the Theatre Sales team and the Theatre Projects Teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the generation of all technical documentation for IMAX equipment for use by the Theatre Projects/Design team and act as source of documentation for all external documentation needs. In addition, the employee will be required to remain current on all IMAX technologies, participate in the documentation of, and application of any new technologies developed at IMAX, and monitor complimentary technologies by others, current and under development, to be used in conjunction with IMAX equipment for new entertainment concepts.
Responsibilities
- Work as an integral part of a team in the development of configurations of IMAX theatres and equipment to deliver and where possible, enhance the existing IMAX experience.
- Work as part of a team to create new experiences using current IMAX technology configured in new ways. Also work to create new experiences using modified IMAX equipment and or other non-IMAX technologies existing or in development.
- Work on site specific projects with our Theatre Design team to identify specific and any unique customer requirements to deliver the IMAX Experience. Once identified, be responsible for participating in the definition of a design solution to satisfy the identified performance needs as well as documenting those solutions.
- Assist in the development of performance specifications and manufacturing details for the manufacture of special equipment to meet the requirements of individual client needs. This could range from complete specification of equipment not currently in the IMAX Standard product range, specification of modifications to IMAX standard product, specification and out-sourcing of special auxiliary equipment, positioning the projectors in nonstandard ways, marking up standard drawings for minor changes to standard equipment required to meet a special client need, etc.
- Assist in the development of all technical system data contained in documentation used by the Theatre Design and Projects groups for internal and external detail communication.
- Work with others in the development of all technical details for the completion of RFPs.
- Be current on all design issues affecting theatre design and quality of performance of the IMAX Theatre, working within recognized and approved criteria.
- For each contracted project, assist in the preparation of project specific technical documentation packages for distribution to the client’s technical team that are tailored to the needs of that project.
- Coordinate with sub-system suppliers to ensure that technical requirements of sub-systems are properly incorporated into IMAX technical documentation packages.
- Prepare presentation drawings, visual materials, and physical models for technical and sales presentations as required.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Architectural Technologist diploma/degree or equivalent credentials.
- 2 years of experience in a similar capacity.
- Architectural field experience is a definite asset.
- Knowledge of electronic drafting, sketching, building systems knowledge (Electrical, Mechanical, Structural and Plumbing, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and spoken).
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, MS Project, MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook.
- This position may require travel to other IMAX locations or customer sites internationally.
- Overtime may be required at times.
