POSITION: Design Assistant - Apparel
OVERVIEW: As the Design Assistant, you will play a supporting role in creating and executing our seasonal designs. You will aid the design and sourcing teams to complete projects from creative concept to bulk production, while meeting all company wide standards and critical deadlines. You will have a keen interest in colour and surface design.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contributes to the complete Design lifecycle: sourcing, concepts, sketches, colour and print work, presentations, approvals, merchandising, technical drawings, spec pass, construction diagrams, colour, prototype fittings, sketch and spec updates, product review, and surface design feedback and approvals.
- Manage and communicate all changes to internal and external teams as needed.
- Assist with the creation and updates of technical CAD drawings, sewing sheets, images/photos, spec sheets and trackers.
- Assist with maintaining accurate line plan information, including all fabric information, style number and name creation.
- Assist with the colour process. Includes concept presentation, colour standards, colour names, lab dip tracking and approval to SMS stage.
- Assist with the surface design process. Includes concept presentation, spec creation, strike off and handloom tracking and approval to SMS stage.
- Manage & update physical and digital fabric, yarn, trim, colour and graphic libraries.
- Trouble shoot with both the team and the vendor, providing solutions for the best possible outcomes.
- Develop simple process and systems that support status tracking and cross functional use.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Degree or Diploma in Apparel Design.
- Strong technical skills, strong understanding of garment construction & attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of development and production in all categories - Knits and Wovens.
- Demonstrated ability in effectively communicating with factories and vendors.
- Strong team player who always works respectfully with staff, associates and suppliers.
- Meets deadlines, ability to multi-task and prioritizes appropriately, copes well with changes, and maintains composure under pressure. Is accountable for results, approaches obstacles proactively and looks for ways to resolve problems and issues.
- Excellent organizational skills. Ability to optimize processes to meet all deadlines.
- Strong written & verbal communication skills including ability to work in a collaborative team environment in a positive and professional manner, respecting x-functional team accountabilities and requirements.
- Proven work ethic - responsible, dependable, and consistent.
- Advanced computer skills InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must Be able to work from our Vancouver office.
